hey all...
i want thoughts and info about this...
i got my hands on a 90 mark 7 lsc....it has an HO motor in it. i got this car very cheap, the body and interior are poor, but drivetrain good. i got car for $100 with the thought of using as donor for a swap into the turbo coupe. i wasnt going to do that, but the deal was too good to pass up. heres the question....what can i use from the car, will harness and trans work? is that worth while? also can i use the rear out of it in the turbo coupe? it has a 5 bolt disc rear. my turbo coupe is an 85. also i worndered about using any front end parts for a 5 lug swap. im thinking because its an HO car and it is complete that i might be in luck, any help would be appreciated. and the best part of the deal is that when i take what i need from the car, i have a buyer for the body for spare panels for a circle track car. he told he me he give me $100 for the body, its not too good but its straight. sorry for rambling on. thanks
Normally i would be all for the 5.0ho swap but your bird has pretty low miles on it,may be better to do up the turbo 4.
If you insist on the 5.0 swap, the motor and trans will bolt in but,you will need exaust, the harness will be a pain to adapt due to all of the extra's in the mark harness, not sure about the rearend but i think it's wider and has different perches due to the air ride.
You should be able to swap the calipers spindles and rotors from the front end though.
Search engine swaps,i did a super nice writeup on the TC to 5.0HO swap with wiring colors and all parts needed.
it would be alot easier swpping the ho into a sport or xr7, that trans wount fit, you'll have to modify it or change the tail shaft, or get a coustom drive shaft. the motor and computer are good. the rear is different but usable, probley has 3.27s in it, and the ebrake cables might work for the earlier turbo coupes just change the back parts, may need to lengthen them an inch or so. you can probley get away with keeping the h pipe for dule exhaust, but the rest of it is like 2" and you'll need a double hump tranny x member, im pretty sure yours has a single hump one. the brake calipers up front are good, bigger pistons than the 87-88 tc or mustang calipers, and the spindles and rotors should work for a front 5lug swap.
just want to add...
my turbo coupe is an 85 it has very limited options
no digital dash or auto a/c, no ride control. dont know if it matters.....thought id add it
it dosent come with any of those options, ecept the ac.
That wiring harness is a major Bitch. It has all the ABS and air suspension wiring in it... Plus it runs down the driver side, across the radiator support, back up the passenger side into the cabin(at least the one I had did)... Only senseable thing would be to get a harness from a '86-'88 bird or mustang... The AOD will be longer than the Bird/Coug, Stang version...
Low milage '85s are gettin hard to find, I'd heep it mostly stock...
great information guys....thanks
mustang drive shaft should work for you. shorter than the birds and cats
i dont know, but i think i changed my mind back again to leave the turbo coupe stock, maybe just swap over the brakes. but im going to keep the motor and other parts from the mark7 for future use, especially since im almost paying nothing for the mark7. i just hate to chop up the turbo coupe because it is in really nice shape.
im going to put i different post up for if anyone needs anything from the mark7 before she goes away.
thanks for the help guys
Lets see Lincoln AOD, Approx 1" longer than Than Bird AOD... Stang driveshaft 6" shorter than Bird...
Yea that'll work ...NOT
the stang DS is that short? didnt realize it was that much shorter. My bad on the bad info.
If you don't end up using the hood hinges off of the Mark, would you be interested in selling them?
Thanks,
Brent
you can use the spindles but you will have to use the linc ball joints, they are different than the mustang/birds
hey bca,
i know im not going to need the hood hinges, but i dont know if they are good because the hood is hard to open, but you can have them
twokstang,
I'm really only in need of the springs, so if they are easy to remove from the hinges great, and if you don't want to mess with removing them, I'll take the whole assembly.
Just let me know what I will owe you shipped to zip code 49047.
Thanks,
Brent
bca
i can pop springs off and send them to you.... but it wil be at least 2 weeks as i am going out of town for a little while. just send me a message so i dont lose your name and zip, and when i get back to town i will get them out asap.
im leaving early saturday....so i send you message when i get back
thanks
twokstang,
No problem at all, I'll check back with you in a couple of weeks.
Thanks !!

well, my mind was made up for me about what to do with the mark7....it was a trade at the dealer i work at, and the used car manager said he would sell it to me for $100. so i left a check for it and went on vacation, when i came back the car was gone! he said i forgot about it and sent it to wholesale, sorry here is your check back and that was it!
oh well.....screwed again!!!:bs:
i wasnt gonna do the swap, but i wanted that motor and stuff for future use.
sorry if anyone needed any parts
