Title: cold air intake question
Post by: Master_xzavior on June 04, 2006, 01:10:39 AM
are they supposed to sound like the engine doesnt have an air filter? I started my car and you can hear air sucking in really really loud its just as loud or louder then it is without running a filter at all.
the only real difference is the sound is coming out of my fender now instead of the throttle body.
Could there be something messed up with the filter or is it just because it was a cheap CAI?

That's a normal part of having a Cold Air Intake.  It makes my Daily Driver Neon sound like a beast under heavy acceleration.  It also makes a whistling sound now and then.

Why you think they had a silencer on the original air box???

I don't really hear mine(the exaust covers it up)...

You should have heard the difference it made on my Turbo coupe. Now there is a Giant Sucking Sound when I'm underboost. I love it.

yep, when i first got my grand national the first thing i did was put a MAF pipe and cone filter on it, when you get into boost it makes an awsome sound. ontop of that if you had the dump open off the down pipe it would sound awsome:D

Mine does it all the time almost seems more so at idle but the exhaust is louder under acceleration so not sure on it.

I probably wouldn't either if my exhaust didn't come out of the back of the car. Behind the car I can't really hear anything but the rumble. Feels interesting as well nothing like feeling the rumble of the exhaust.
