Title: So....
Post by: Carl on May 29, 2006, 09:28:00 AM
The time has come to REALLY start working on my Cougar. This of course means that I am going to be taking it off the road/pulling the engine out/sending the body into the shop/getting a complete break and shock overhaul/etc...

That said.

I am looking for a nice daily driver, that is also good on gas.

I am thinking about getting this

http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail.jsp;jsessionid=2MSHF2U5MR25JLAZGJNE2VQ?tab=summary&paId=132744469&recnum=4&actLog=true&tracktype=usedcc&pageNumber=0&numResultsPerPage=50&largeNumResultsPerPage=0&sortorder=descending&sortfield=PRICE+descending&certifiedOnly=false&criteria=K-%7CE-%7CM-_1_%7CB-5000%7CN-N%7CR-100%7CI-1%7CP-PRICE+descending%7CQ-descending%7CZ-31699&aff=national

I think it looks like a pretty good deal, until of course I get an insurance quote! Oh I can't wait for that.

My question of all the good people of this board.

Any other Daily Driver suggestions?

$3,500 is about my cap, and I may go a bit over that, but not by much.

Thanks!

get a hyundia accent with manual transmission. im not kidding eather, its got plenty of "pep", gets great gas milage, fits anywhere, and its a hatch so it fits anything. also, a 99 is with 70k is worth like a grand tops,... so their dirt cheap. we got ours new in 99 for just under 9k option delete, but its a great beater. realy havent had any problems with it too, and its still under warrentee.

just got the quote on the Acura. That and the cougar together will cost about $750 every 6 months, where the cougar was $537.00 by itself. Not as bad as I expected.

Another vote for hyundai, friend bought a 97 accent at a govt auction for $3000 in 2000 and hasnt had a single problem with it other than a blown ps hose when she first bought it. And they do have suprising pep

Ok, so I decided I am getting a new car instead of a used one. Well, close to new. A 2004 WRX. If I am lucky I will be picking it up tomorrow.

No need to worry though, the Cougar is going to be my main hobby, but might as well ride in style while working on it! :D

It is time to use my military pay/having no real bills b/c I live on base. To get something good for a change!

With the right mods, they get over that. On my tripminder, ive gotten a steady 37mpg on the highway. Around town, i get about 22mpg.
