My new converter was advertised as having a 2200-2600 stall.
I have all my gears and everything SEEMS to be hooked up properly. Even with the TV valve backed off the 1-2 shift at minimum throttle is a staggering 37 MPH. 2-3 is 54 MPH. OD comes on at 65-ish. It was worse before I adjusted the TV valve and that's the best I can get it. Upon checking the tranny fluid I did notice I'm about 1 and 1/2 quarts above the "do not fill above this mark" line.
Specs are as follows:
Stock Block 302 with flat-tops
TFS stage 1 cam
TFS Twisted Wedge heads
TFS Street Heat manifold (0-5500 RPM)
Edelbrock 70 mm Throttle body
19 pound injectors with AFPR set to 60 PSI
Walbro 255 LPH fuel pump
Trans-Go AOD shift kit
Pro-Torque 2200-2600 Stall converter
I know a higher stall converter will hold onto gears a little longer, but she's holding to 3500! Will draining a little tranny fluid help? I know I have to drain it anyway, but it just seems that I'll be sending the converter back to have them tweak it down a little and I hope that's not the case. Anybody have any ideas? Something I may have overlooked?
It surely is not the converters fault.
paul, your shiftkit might be the root of your problem.... ive heard some bad failure with those tranz-go kits

Well, I found my problem. My o2 sensor connector was hanging down and blocking the movement of the TV rod on the tranny. Problem solved. The Demon shifts great again! :D
I've heard some stories on the shift kits too, but mine has been in for 50K of the tranny's 55K life and has been trouble free.

how she run with the 19# injectors? I thought the injectors had trouble cycling at high fuel pressure and stick open too long...
I bet that converter helped wake it up a bit, didnt it ;)
Always seems the little things can screw stuff up...
IMHO they are the best out there... Of course they are a bit complicated and you have to install them correctly...
So how you like the converter??? I have a 2600 but for me a 3600 would be about right...
The new converter seems to be a good fit for my setup. Without powerbraking while at idle, if I just move my right foot from the brake to the gas and mash it she just squats, gives a little bark and goes with no bogging at low RPM's.
As far as the Trans-Go, it's one of the best mod's I've ever done. Like you said, they must be installed correctly.
For an AOD they are the best you can get. But they are also the best way to kill a 4R70W.
