Title: HELP Air Conditioner wiring diagram
Post by: thunderjet302 on May 24, 2006, 04:50:46 PM
Does anyone happen to have the wiring diagram for a 1988 5.0 with A/C and electronic climate controll? If you do could you post up the a/c diagram? I'm trying to find a wiring problem with mine and it would be a whole lot easier with the diagram.

What's wrong with your climate control, thunderjet?

Thanks jcassity:D .

The compressor won't work when I put the a/c on. If I jump it the compressor will run fine but it won't come on when I put the a/c on with the climate control. I think I have a busted wire between the climate control and the low pressure switch on the accumulator and the compressor. I just want to check the wiring before I start replaceing components.

Good deal.  Another thing that can cause the symptoms you describe is the wide open throttle switch.  It would normally shut off the compressor if you were at WOT, but if it is malfunctioning or the wires at the plug that goes into it are frayed, it will cause the compressor to not kick on unless you jump it like you said.  It might be easier to check first, since it is mounted all by its lonesome on the passenger side in front of the strut tower.

I forgot about the WOT switch. I'll check that first. I can't complain the a/c has worked for 18 years without a hitch so at some point something was bound to go out  . I hope that's all it is or I'll be tracing wires for awhile, which should be fun.

what happens when you jump the low presure switch plug with a paper clip?

you already know it will run by putting power directly from the ac clutch head but now will it come on if you jump the presure switch?

if so, your prob is either low freon or a worn switch.
Ill assume the WOT relay contact side is normally closed so there should be  continuity across the pink and black wires (5.0),  I never did like how the illustrations in the evtm depict the relays.

notice how the 3.8 is set up compared to the 5.0,, putting the presure switch on the other side of the wot relay,,, curious.

The system is fully charged so it has to be a switch or a broken wire somewhere. It worked fine last year it just went bad over winter storage:dunno: . I haven't had a chance to look at it yet. I was going to a car show tonight and my heater hose started to leak so I had to go home. I now have to replace the heater hose and clean my engine compartment, which I just deatailed:mad:

I finally got around to looking at it. The WOT switch was bad. I changed it and vola the a/c works again:D

When I got the sled the WOT relay and the cycling switch were both bad.
