Post by: jenkins6586@aol.com on May 12, 2006, 11:47:21 PM
i have a 88 cougar ls 5.0 and at idle in park my rpm is 1700 if i hit the brake it goes up to 2000 i put it in gear and it goes down to 1200 are any of these numbers normal for this car? also when putting it in gear its like butter no jerking or jolting

i got a vacum leak somewhere under the hood i belive on the driver side whats the most common hoses to crack or fall off?

ok for one that idle is way to high. also it is possible the vaccume leak could be the cause of the high idle. the best thing to do is look under the hood for a cracked or broken vacume line. there should be a diagram of the vacume hose routing in the fan shroud. that will help you see where the hoses are and where you should be looking.

check around your distributor cap... the line that goes to the vaccume canister from the intake the split between hoses us right around the backside of the distributor..

i had the same problem.... thats was what was wrong... hope it helps
