Yesterday a fired up my 86 tbird and the center guage where the speed is displayed was blank. The greeen backlight of it lit up, but there were no numbers. The guages on either side work fine. Not sure what the problem could be. Please help.
thanks
just off the top of my head check your fuses.
its possible the vss took a dump or possibly there is a loose connection at the back of the speedo.
yeah its possible but Ive had similar problems on mine and it was a fuse I would think it would at least read something if it was working. I know when it was still working if I turned my car to accessory the backlighting on the speedo would light up but thats it. If I remember correctly the other guages operated as well in accessory I could be wrong on that. Before you tear anything apart check the fuse box. It might save alot of un needed work if not youre out what 10 minutes of time?
Hmmm.... That makes me feel a lot better. I'll check it out. I was afraid i might have to change the whole cluster. Is that likely?
not if the other ones are working you can change just the speedo if its bad
Great news!!! I disconnected the battery, and when I reconnected and fired it up everything was fine. On a different note, I accidentally set the speed control when looking at my mpg. Does anyone know how to disengage it?
cool glad you got it working again. if you mean the thing that lights up that says speed under the speedo I think you just push the speed button again I dont recall exactly I havent messed with that feature in over a year.
Thanks! Worked like a charm. What I understood about this feature is that it's basically a speed control, like if i was going 65 and activated it, the car wouldn't go over 65 (for teens and valet drivers right?) Well i accidentally pushed it, thankfully I was goin 'round 75 and I USUALLY dont go faster than that, Unless someone with a fart can pulls up next to me. So, is that what the featue does?
No it just blinks and makes a noise if you go over the set speed. It doesn't prevent you from speeding ;) .
Oh, i noticed the blinking. Didn't hear the noise though, but 3 inch exhaust, flowmaster, and a sub will do that. :headbang:
