Hey all,
Since the MM C/C plates aren't gonna work with my STB I'm just gonna get new strut mounts. From what I've seen from Mark VIIs, the Ford mounts are one piece and seem to be the best.
Went to the dealer, they are discontinued! Anyone have a recommendation or preference in the strut mount department?
You can always get some of the Moog or TRW replacement aftermarket strut mounts. They are similar to the Mustang ones in design and use a replaceable bushing.
The Ford mounts suck :p
Thanks Chuck, you know way more about this than I do, so MOOG/TRW it is. MOOG pretty much rebuilt my suspension, so hearing that Ford wasn't the best place for those parts is a relief!
I have the mustang type replacement's on my car. They are a nice tight design.
NAPA can get the Moog strut mounts pretty quick. At least they did a couple years ago when I replaced mine.
I got the Monroe strut mounts. They are the same as the moog. I ordered both in and looked at both. I went with the monroe because they saved me $10 each. they are the same that go on the stang. Besides I hade to buy them so I could put in the new Energy suspension strut mount bushings.
No, they are the same TYPE as the Mustang mounts, but not the same piece.....
Chuck I beg to differ with you. Moog part number is k8634 for both the cougar, bird and stang. Same part number same part. Yes they are different from the factory. But if you buy one aftermarket they are the same part. The years I checked were the 84 tbird against the 87 stang that should give us a pretty good Idea.
Sorry, but just because the Moog catalog lists the same part numbers, it does not mean it's gospel...
They are not the same piece UNLESS they have provisions for the different mounting bolt patterns between the two.
The mounting holes on the TBird are NOT the same as for the Mustang. You can make them work, but the same? No.
If they were the same then there would be no need for Tbird/Cougar specific C/C plates. As Chuck said the studs/holes have different spacing.
Well the moog and the monroe where the same thing in a side by side comparison. The main difference where the strut bushings. They bolted right into my 84 Turbo coupe. Didn't have to drill any holes or any thing. But that was just my experience.
The spacing front to rear on the Tbird mounts is greater than the Mustangs. I've used Mustang strut mounts in a Tbird...and they were not a bolt in....
I can tell you hands down, no question...they are not the same piece, and one will not bolt in place of the other without mods..
The design of the aftermarket ones mirrors the Mustang design, but they are not identical....from MY experience....and I've installed/modded/designed/built several...
Um.... The Moog and Monroe peices for the Tbird may be the same but the Tbird and Mustang parts are not. i've replaced them on my car and prior to doing so I compared the stang and tbird parts at AutoZone. They are different.
Ok so there not the same. I was just telling them what I looked up. I did by the monroe units and they were the same thing as the moog. I never actually handled a mustang mount but if I would have I guess I would have ended up with the right one for the bird according to Moog any how. But the Moog number I stated earlier should be the same as what I bought. I don't have the boxes anymore for the monroe number. The moog number came from the book.
