Title: Clear headlight covers still available?
Post by: Red_LX on May 03, 2006, 10:37:21 PM
I remember years ago GTS and AutoVentshade made clear headlight covers for lots of cars. I was thinking how nice clear headlight covers would be (keep bugs off the headlights & be easier to clean) but JC Whitney doesn't carry the clear ones for the '87-88 Thunderbirds anymore. Do they even still make these things?

GTS still offers some applications in clear, but the Thunderbird & Cougar isn't one of them, currently they only offer them in smoke.
'83-'86 Thunderbird - GT0205s
'87-'88 Thunderbird - GT0219s
'87-'88 Turbo Coupe - GT0226s
'83-'86 Cougar - GT0207s
'87-'88 Cougar - GT0221s

Auto Ventshade is the same way, except they only show a listing for the '83-'86 Thunderbird, part #37714. No listing for the '87-'88 cars and nothing at all for the '83-'88 Cougars. Also they have a note on the #37714 part number that states "while supplies last" so their days are numbered from them.

, that's what I thought. I don't care for smoked headlight covers, I used to have them for my Mustang and got tired of taking them off every time I had to drive at night.

On the four eye cars a clear cover would be easy to make as it's really just a flat piece of clear plastic...on the later cars though, it has to conform to the headlight.

It's short for GT Styling.

I have a set...as is obvious, and they do dim your headlights significantly.  If you have a good set of driving/fog lights installed on your cxar, the combination of the two of them should get you by driving in the city.  They are easy enough to snap on and off, but they are just hard enough that it's not something I'd like to do daily.  Hope that helps.

I Bought a set of smoked version from AVS (autoventshade) They were for my 84 T/c they fit and looked great. But After about 2-3 months one of them blew off my car. They never seemed to attack very well with there thin strips of velcro. I like the looks of the GTS they seem to cover just the headlights not the corner light light the AVS ones. at least on the 83-86
