So you have all seen pics of my little old 297,000 mile cougar. I think it is time that I do something with it.
Here is what I have planned......
I have been going crazy over this kit since paul brought it up.
It should get me around 300hp(give or take) for about $2k. I have been thinking about it, but it would be pointless to convert an old engine over to a H.O. if I am just gonna go ripping it all out and what now. With this kit I should also still be able to pass emissions(hopefully) for stage one at least.. So here is the plan.
Rebuilt stock bottom for a 87-93 mustang, around $700. Probably less, considering all that I want is the pistons, block and crank. I also want to fix that ed rear main seal. So a new gasket set, all around. and of course that kit. I want to run around 8.5 to one compression. Also, brand new head gaskets and seals there. a 70mm throttle body should top it it off, along with a matching egr valve. of course mass air. That will be stage one of my setup, hopefully all parts will be purchased by the end of this up coming winter. Also, at this stage the car will be driven daily, hopefully. I honestly dont care about the exterior, Maybe one day. over all, about $5k
stage two, will include a t-56, and a 8.8" rear end with 3.73 gears. Also a tubular k member, a-arms, five lug and a mustang suspension up front. Also, chassi stiffening, maybe a rollbar. This car will be my weekend warrior. This will prolly be around $5k, and will be done as I can afford it. I will start with chassi first. after all my car has been around.
Stage three, assuming that I get around to it, will be an all out fun car. I want to run a twin screw super, and possibly a stroker. Maybe 300ish hp will be enough, but i guess we will see. at least $3k here.
I hope to do one stage a year, starting this summer.
Anyways, what do ya'lls think so far? any suggestions, or reasons for not doing what I want to do? Maybe even a comment or two.
alot of my reasoning for going with kits and stages like this, is because I havent really been too deep into an engine(Well i kinda rebuilt a chevy v-6 once, but those dont count) But I am sure I will get it quick. I always have you guys to fall back on;) anyways, comments are appreciated.
There's no substitute for a solid base car... ;)

Agreed, as much as I love my car I would prefer one in better shape.
Seems like you got it figured out, but didn't you just quit your job?
New oil pump and pickup and a new water pump as well while you have it apart.
hey i noticed that one! i was gonna post it but didnt feel like it...looks nice. theyre still out there!
Weird color combo....light blue with red interior....
Looks like it's a repaint of an '87 XR7.
Eh I will be buried in that car. Prolly cause they wont be able to get me out of it after.
Yeah, I did just quit my job, about 2 weeks ago. I always decide to do things at the worst time.
OMG, that xr7 is in utah! about 3 miles from me. I am gonna call that guy up or shoot him some emails. , what a time for me to quit my job.
Thanks eric.
I was thinking of you all the way, dude. :)
