Title: sort of sad day...
Post by: shame302 on May 01, 2006, 06:55:00 PM
went to the only realy local bone yard to me that still has foxes...had foxes. i went there for a fender for a sister in laws subaru. i wish i had my camera. no less than 3 87-88 turbo coupes, crushed, and piled on top of each other amongst "lesser" now sped cars. all 3 had nearly fully intact bodies, one was missing a hood. one of the others had a smashed front end anyway but they all had fenders, doors, complete front spindles as well as the rear diffs. these cars were hardly picked appart. the hood thats on my bird came from the silver t coupe. the nearly mint front bumper cover was smileing at me from amongst the s. 2 complete raven interiors. obviously their were other foxes of verying years but those stood right out. one earlier xr7 got it as well. i was actually a little broken hearted man...

and ya know..what realy  me off is that they charged you for parts off these cars like they were made of gold. i bought very little from them for this reason. they wouldnt even take offers. now its gone for what, a few hundred bucks in s metal?

the junk yard where I used to live had two rows of fox birds and cats and one day I went there and they were all crushed and stacked made me want to cry.  now they only have a few foxes. 2 TC's and a turbo cougar and an 87-8  cougar

Sure that's sad, but that just makes me appreciate my car a lot more.

The junkyard I'm going to on the 20th has about 20-30 fox tbirds and cougars. The place has been sold and all of them are going to be crushed in about a month :(

Yard by me gets so many cars that they crush cars every 45 days. They usually have 2-4 Fox Tbirds or Cougars there every time I go and 1-3 Mark VIIs. Earlier this year there was a 88 Turbo Coupe with no rust and near mint paint in the yard. It go crushed because the yard has a policy that once a car goes in the yard it can't come back out whole.

I would be actually interested in how much a yard makes for a crushed vehicle. I've only been to one yard that charges reasonably and consistently, others will let you slide on some stuff just to get you on the bigger more common items.

At the yard I USED to work for, they got around 60 a ton for s metal...But i kept em from crushing any fox body stuff, cept for one beat-to-hell 83-84 Cougar, was nearly crushed anyway, had been rolled and hit in the ass-end

The junkyard i go to always seems to have at least 2 cats or birds, and they seem to keep a steady flow of them coming through.

Last year when i went in for some parts, i nearly dropped my jaw when i had seen the white 88 TC, nearly fully intact except for the hood and the turbo.
No damage or anything to the body, except of course, they pryed out the lock on the trunk, And, broke the drivers side window. :nono:
I even found the full set of original keys, with the car alarm control in the glove compartment.

I wanted to take that car home so bad.
Makes me sad to think its probably s metal now.
