I recently put the factory radio back in my 88 TC after having a Clarion CD player in the car (deck was stolen from the other car I had it in and I can't afford another right now). I got the wiring all reassembled fine, but for some reason, I get no sound. The displays backlight works, so I see green, but no numbers, no sound - from radio or tapes...
Anyone have any clue what my problem could be?
Did you push the large metal clip on the bottom of the radio back onto its support bar in the dash? The radio grounds though this while also being held up. Also make sure the red (GROUND) wire is bolted onto the same clip.
Or you could ignore it altogether and extend/remount the ground wire elsewhere.
That was my problem...sometimes the radio would work, and other times I'd only get a backlight. Figured out it had to be mounted to function.
When you had the aftermarket stereo did you have the EQ hooked up?
The bracket is in place a well as the ground wire and I never had an EQ. Any other ideas?
I am having a similar problem..... my 84 mercury cougar i ran all new wires for the front and rear speakers. I tried installing a pioneer DEH-34 deck and im getting no sound, but i am getting allll other functions. lights work and everything. i had to wire it with the ignition hot and the always hot wires together since i couldnt locate a ignition hot wire for the radio :-| also ran the black ground to the metal behind where the radio goes.... but there were no brakets or anything in the radio area. anyone know what could fix that?
