Where is a good source for accurate numbers of production of Cougars and Thunderbirds? I really would like to break it down by engine, exterior colors, and/or other specifics if that data is available.
http://www.coolcats.net/fox/
Only Cougar totals, and they're not always itemized.
It's a start, anyway.
ESP, I knew you were going to post this question before you actually did... thats my story and i'm sticking to it!
Heres the best I can do, I thought I had a later one but I cant find it, this one only shows from 55-78 and shows 'total sold' so I dunno if thats an accurate production total or not.
thunderbird info (http://"http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i11/turbosprunt/thundernumbers.jpg")
We do not have breakdowns by color/options. That is something we'd like to get from Ford in the future...getting it is the tricky part.
Thanks for the help. Thought somebody might have a book with this information. I'll check my local Barnes and Noble tonight!

It was recently announced that Kevin Marti @ Marti Auto Works has secured the licensing rights to run his production reports for the ’74 and newer Ford cars & trucks so it may not be too much longer before we will know everything there is to know about production breakdowns and how many other cars were produced that are just like your own.
Brent
1988 XR7 totals should be 14,488. ;)
Otherwise...those numbers are dead on with what I have. Thanks for digging all that up! ;)
in 1986 the 5speed was standard I believe.. and in 1985 they were optional.
Im still trying to figure out exactly how rare mine is.. a 1985 optional 5 speed.. with a sport wheel that doesn't have cruize control buttons.. and of course.. speedometer converted to KM/H since the car's in Canada.
that is strange, more 30th's then xr7's....
Is there any breakdown of the 80-82 tbirds/cougars?
btw You forgot to add the 80-82 totals to that number ;)
BCA - Thanks for that data. I checked on that book you mentioned, T-Bird: 40 Years of Thunder and it's available on Amazon.com for about $6 including shipping charges. I'm buying a copy tonight!!
Good point, I forgot about them, my bad.
I don't have the book so I don't know if the totals for those years are in there or not.
BobBlueBird, if you get the book, see if they are listed in there.
Brent
Oops, looks like I screwed up on the 1987 total too. (14,957)
I also found that Sessler's book lists the XR-7 numbers for the '80-'82 cars.
Looks like edit time. :o

Marti auto works now has the ability to get production stats
What about the '88 Sport models. I'd guess those numbers to be less than the Turbo Coupes.
^Would be very interesting to see what there were more made..Sports, or TC Birds.
I've seen several 5.0 Birds here, but AFAIK, I own the only Sport (VIN of 1FAPB61xxxxxxxxxx) in the whole county...I've seen 4 or 5 TCs here.
This thread has risen from the dead!
I dunno about sport vs tc, but I seem to remember the v8 (all trim levels) and turbo birds (obviously tc only) sold in similar numbers
