Title: Doing a few little jobs
Post by: thundergrowl on April 13, 2006, 09:45:58 PM
So... since I'm waiting on a part in order to finish the power clutch, I decided to take care of a few little things I've been wanting to do with the T-bird. I've replaced the bulb in the frequency display on the radio, replaced the burned out fog light. I went through my parts and found a new wiper motor and I've installed the map pockets. I'm in the process of removing the CD Changer and the alarm system. I want to get the car to as original condition as posible

Also, since the DOT only supplies one plate, I removed the front plate bracket and discovered a mess on the bumper. It looks like a 19 year old collection of road grime. I've tried everything I know to clean it up but nothing is working. I've tried hand cleaner, windex, bug and tar remover, and I've even tried 3M paint restorer.

Does anyone here have any solution to my problem? Or do I have to invest in a vanity plate and put it and the bracket back on?

Before I invested in a vanity plate I'd get the bumper painted. I've got to do the same thing with my car (remove the front plate bracket) when I get it painted. For now I've got my trademark "Just4Kixx" custom front plate on there, but front plate brackets look like poo. Especially with no front plate :hick:

Jeeshe, wish i had that luxary. I've been pulled over 3 times for no front plate.

The pic in my sig was taken when I was in Florida, No front tag required so I pulled that bad boy out of the window and threw it in the trunk. heh

I just leave the frames in place since I know it's gonna look like  underneath them. When I painted the non-chrome part of the Mark's bumper, I just shot the license plate frame with some of the same paint. (the textured metallic stuff) Looks as good as it's gonna look for something I half-assed.. (had some paint runs on the bumper strip, etc.) but still much better than the faded strip looked.

Yeah, I know.. not much help, right? :p

I forgot to tell you that my budget for all these little jobs is $10. :giggle: I've spent $5 for the fog light and $1 for the radio light leaving me with $4 to fix the plate problem. :giggle:

I think ThunderChicken is right; I'm going to have to get it painted. But for this year I'll just put the bracket back on and stick the VA plate Tom gave me on it. It's illegal here to have a plate from somewhere else on your car but a lot of people are doing it so I'll join the croud. When I get a couple other trouble spots painted I'll have the bumper painted too.

So now, I'm off to put the bracket back on and finish taking out the alarm system and the CD changer.
