Title: woo-hoo halo headrests!!! now...
Post by: Ether947 on April 06, 2006, 07:52:39 PM
How do I get my friggin old headrests off!?!?!? I tried yanking em off, no dice. Sticking a screwdriver in there... too round. Shaking em... nothing... sticking the screwdriver back in there... hmmm... it seems to be getting worse. What is the proper procedure here? After years of searching and giving up I finally got my own set of halos and now I can't even get put them in. Interior parts always kick my arse before I end up destroying them. =/

Hizzelp. :D

When I removed the seat skins from the seats in my '96, the headrests were held in with clips. The clips are only accessible when the seat skin is removed (and foam).
Are the Fox seats the same? I have NO idea... but it's worth investigating.

you need too slide a flat peice of metal or something down the back of the aluminum thingie behing the headrest into the back of the seat in that little channel.....

Yeah, you'll have to do as they indicated, and take your upper seat skins off to access the headrest clips, it's not a bad job, either...
BTW, what did ya get your halo headrests from?
I got a set of seat from my escort GT, that I'm gonna pull out of my mud truck, and put away.(while their still clean)

At the bottom of the headrest shaft (front side) there is a horizontal groove to which a spring loaded tab recesses into. By sliding a Slim Jim  (or hacksaw blade) down the "front" of the headrest (headrest all the way up) at this point the tool being used will bottom out. Push down with alittle more pressure while slowly pushing the headrest down 2"-3", this will force the blade past the tab....at this point while holding the blade in place the headrest will pull right out.

And if you rip off the fabric, it looks a little something like...

I know a buddy of mine had a Mercury topaz sport that had the halo headrest. My 84 T/C has them. I not so sure why everyone makes such a big deal out of them but I do like them better than the other ones I've seen on these.

Cool beans man.  I still think they look kinda funny with the seatbelt catch sticking out.  Maybe if it were the same color.

:headbang: Nice!

I think I'd remove the seatbelt thingy though. They were off my TC when I got it and I don't think I'll put them back. It's a little harder reaching the belts thought.

They look like they're tall enough to actually be of use in a rear-end collision. My flat stockers, even at "full height" only come to the base of my skull, almost guaranteeing some really nifty whiplash if I get hit.
