Title: Heads!
Post by: kewlbird08 on April 06, 2006, 11:02:47 AM
What do you think of these (http://"http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=WRL%2D053040%2D1&N=4294908331+4294840125+4294889096+115&autoview=sku") heads?  The combustion chamber volume (64cc) is the same as GT-40's, but the intake runner volume is 40cc's more than GT-40's at 200cc, and they're over $100 less a peice than GT-40's.  Whats the catch?  I hope this isn't a stupid question...

Not sure what the catch is but....

With the intake runner being bigger it may reduce air flow to the cyclinder. Now if you are going to be running forced induction thats not a problem.

Very good heads. Similar to the Edelbrock Performer heads.

Max valve lift is less than a few other performance heads.  Probably cheap springs.

LOL.. I don't know why summit lists them like that. I think for price the eddys would be better than any out of the box iron heads.

Intake Valve Diameter (in):    2.020 in. TO BIG FOR 302's

Since when? I was under the assumption that most aftermarket aluminum heads for 302's (TFS, Holley, Edelbrock) had 2.02/1.60 valves?

I actually use the 180cc world heads on my car, they are a good performing head,  the 200 were just to big for my application.  You will be happy with them.  And he is correct they will not work with stock Rockers or push rods.  You will have to replace both of those.  Push rods have to be hardened.  I used 1.7 rollers on mine but you will have to have tall talve covers as well.  Here are the one i used

what would be the best heads to run on a 306 with 11.5:1 pistons?

i'm considering sending my heads out to get machined for bigger valves and a 3 angle valve job.. and port them myself

I like my 2.02 T/Fs just fine... I'm gonna reuse them on a 347 one of these days(If I don't get a set of AFRs... maybe, maybe)... I figure what I got for the Windsor Jr's, and selling the T/Fs would pay for a set with a little left over.

The 1.90 valve heads usually give a little more bottom end on a 302, but with a 5 speed, I'd definatly go with the bigger valves... Especially IF you think a larger engine may be in the future.

Keep me in mind should you decide to sell those TW heads, Tom - eventually I hope to build up my engine. This year the car gets treated to suspension and body, next year (hopefully over the winter, now that I've got a garage) the engine/tranny :D
