Title: Trunk pin
Post by: Masejoer on April 01, 2006, 02:45:22 PM
I keep seeing wiring diagrams for a factory alarm system, but I never knew one existed. Either way, where's the best place to mount a pin on the trunk? Was there a certain area the factory pin was mounted?

Also, what're the other 2 things mounted to the bracket behind the back seat, next to the factory amp? Looking for the part numbers online didn't turn up anything.

Not knowing the shape or color of these "other 2 things", or the part numbers in question, I'd have to say... a shotgun rack, and a tracking device planted by the CIA.

Not many places to put a pin. Can't drill any flat metal in the corners, because it's all outside the gasket. Maybe a custom bracket to hold it under the latch striker, or inside the loop of one of the curvy lid support hinged tube thingies, or a mercury switch stuck to the side of one of the thingies, or tap into the trunk light wire (has a mercury switch in it).  :dunno:

I found one to be power for the factory amp (had 3 thicker wires) - red, yellow, and black. The otherthing mounted back there has a single row connector with like 6 wires ranging in colors. Part numbers E7SF-18A952-AA and E3AB-13C718-AA. About the pin, I've already tapped into it for additional lighting, but its a bad design for hills and won't go off until the trunk is at least open halfway on a flat surface. Been reading about magnet driven switches and they may be the way to go.

One of those things is probably the keyless entry module or the illuminated entry module.

If I were you, I'd ditch the idea of a pin in the trunk.  Go with a mercury switch on one of the lid supports.  Lots easier to do.  Leave the pin switch for the hood, much easier.

I've already got a bracket mounted on the drivers side, under the rear deck, with 5/16" bolts and a pin switch installed. Works great. $2 in parts and 10 minutes of time.

Now to install LED strips on the lid

Mecury switch on one of the supports is how the trunk light works. The  mercury switch is in the base of the socket. I took it apart and used it to run my neon trunk light. It is just a little round can like thing smaller around than the base of the bulb.

I was using that before this, but the flickering light when the lid moved was a little annoying.
