Title: Testing pickup coils.... Can you?
Post by: CougarSE on March 31, 2006, 06:58:37 PM
Ok, I was sitting and scratching my head today wondering just how to test a pickup coil.  No the Cougar is doing just fine, but I have a budy with a ford truck that believes he is having pickup coil problems.  I'm wondering if there is a way to test one on the vehicle with an osciliscope(sp?)?

Oscilliscope, that just sounds confusing.  I usually just replace it when I have ignition problems and I'm feeling gung ho.

The dammed things can be interminent and no test will show it. Back in '94 my '86 Grand Marquis had a hot restart problem, was the PIP.
