Title: headlights dont work
Post by: Innes on March 30, 2006, 07:17:17 PM
Awhile ago I hooked up my fog lambs by jumping them to my running lights (not head lights) but when I did so my head lamps went out.

I have no power going to the headlights. Checked all fuses there good checked the main light switch and power dose come in and goes out. According to a wiring diagram I’m looking at the next thing and it is the multi-function switch, which I can’t find does any one no where its located.

Another clue my low head lamp light out did not come on.

1988 T-bird sport w/TC nose.

Some one help please no one knows where the multi-function switch is.

On the electric diagram I’m looking at it’s between the main light switch and lamp out warning.

The multifunction switch is in the steering column. It's the turn signal/high beam switch

there is also a relay for the headlamps if you have auto headlamps, its tucked up under the dash behind the radio with about 4 or 5 others.  found this one the hard way :P

Found my problem the wire harness that plugs into the multifunction switch is in the steering column is burnt. Just playing with it the headlights went on. Ill have to find one at a bone yard.
I don’t know how it could have happened though the only thing I could think of is hooking up the foglights; when I spliced them into the running lights. Though in confused cause it’s not the headlights

Did you use a relay and big wires to power the fog lights, and just use the connection to the harness to activate the relay, or is all the fog light power being sucked through the tiny little wires that are just barely big enough to power the regular lights?
