I have a problem with my 88'cougar's gas guage. It's jumps around and then it will read normal(???).But as i drive it will fall below E.
But will park it and get back in to drive it goes back to the correct
amount.I think;what's the deal...

My car does the same thing, but its because I tried to "fix" it when I changed my fuel pump.  Went from a small dead spot to a  big one.

so what you're saying is leave it alone;and just get it fix correctly,
and save myself a headache...sounds smart to me.

I had a similar problem with my car...but the temp gauge would mimic it exactly...mine was a poor ground on the cluster regulator...went away when I took it apart and did the speedo mod.  Good luck with it.
