Hey all, just a word of warning...(un)COOL CATS will be down for a bit whilst I change servers. Shouldn't be more than a day or so. Thanks in advance for your patience!
Changing servers and staying on the same host, or are ya changing hosts?
I'm guessing he is changing his domain to UnCoolCats.net
lol, someone had to say that!
So are ya ditching XLInternet Eric? I plan to ditch them in November when foxthundercats.com is up for renewal, and I may even discuss it with you and Baxo about moving this board in October. XLInternet has simply become too unreliable. Notwithstanding the fact that the board has worked for the past several weekends, I am still quite bitter about the several weekends that it didn't work.
The fact that they discontinued the phone support is another big issue, although even when they had it they'd simply lie about why the site was down anyway. They still blame the PHP attacks on Vbulletin, even though you're not running Vbulletin on your site and every time this site goes down so does Coolcats.
I told the tech guy the last time I "talked" to him (we didn't actually talk, what with no phone support) that I'd be moving to another more reliable (and friendlier) host as soon as my time was up with XLInternet, and he replied by offering three months free. I told him three free months aren't much good when the ed site is always down anyway...
I've been seriously considering 1&1 - their eleventy-two page monthly ad in Maximum PC magazine looks mighty compelling. Hell, even their most basic package at $2.99/month offers double the storage, five times the data transfer, just as many databases and twice as many domain names, plus 24 HOUR PHONE SUPPORT...
I am considering uncoolcats.net. ;)
Yeah Carm, I am ditching them. Same reasons for me...cheap hosting is one thing, but cheap and uncaring hosting is quite another. I have e-mailed XL countless times over the last 6 months to unlock the ed PHP so my site can fully function. Never got a response. So...piss on you, XL. Uh buh-bye.
I'll PM you with the details on the new host, and will keep you updated on whether I like them or not. So far the uploading went fine, and within the next day or so it should be fully operational. Phone support is good too.
he's ditching the coolcats thing and changing it into "Mighty Mountaineers"
I would recommend GoDaddy myself personally. It's cheap and has great speed :)
Which host are you going to?
Actually, he IS going to GoDaddy..
and i was just there and it's freakin fast!!!! good choice whoever you got!!!
...that IS fast. Sheesh. Well, I'm pretty happy with them, needless to say. I didn't know how "slow" the old site was until this switch. Two thumbs up for GoDaddy...ahem...Carm.... ;)
ill second that that site is fast now :D
Fast! Yes! But your db connection is not working.
We're working on that right now...
holy cougars bat man. I didn't think the old one was slow, but man! that site zooms now.
Okay.. the database is now running.. The viewer photos is now functional again :)
heheh...I gotta say it...
WHO'S YOUR goDADDY???
:rollin:
nice, alot faster. I like it better. LIke the new state of the car too.,
Site is a bit faster now. However, the MN12 section is not working.
New State of the Cat made me cry. Such pessimism Eric! :nono:
"The Pain of Reality" made me cry, Eric :( .
, i'm about to cry now too. and it is all so true. We are all fans cause we remember what these cars were like "back in the day". My friend had an 88 'bird 5.0 when we were in highschool. We put a bunch of truck parts (maf, intake, ect) on it and got a few more ponies out of it and it was pretty darn quick. and that started my tbird love affair. and I will never love a ford the same as I did my old ones, the old capri's and stangs, the 'birds/cougars.. *sigh*
That's true to a point. But most of the time people look on the past with rose tinted glasses. You simply cannot compare our cars to vehicles of today. Hard plastic everywhere and screws clearly visible in almost every interior panel are just a couple of things that you just don't hardly see on new cars today. The fit and finish on any newer car is much more refined than on ours, especially when it comes to the interior. The 80s Tbirds and Cougars are elegantly dated.
Call me an optimist, but I think that Eric's doom and gloom about the future of Ford and domestic carmakers in general is a bit premature.
OK Jim...I would like to see you be right. ;)
Thanks everyone for your patience with the site changeover...everything seems to be cool now.
