Title: buttstuffog instrument cluster?
Post by: 88 Blackbird 5.0 on March 24, 2006, 12:20:58 AM
Hey guys, is there a certain model, or year 83-86 T-Bird that came with a totally buttstuffog instrument cluster?  Although I've seen a few pictures of T-Birds in that year range with an buttstuffog cluster, most of the cars I've seen, have a partial, or totally digital cluster.  If the Bird I find has a digital steup, is it an easy swap, to replace it with an buttstuffog one?  Not only do I like the looks of the buttstuffog set up better, but one of the things I'd like to do with the Bird I find, is to build a nasty 351 Windsor to drop in between the towers.  I'm thinking that if I build a nasty 351 like that and back it with a stout tranny and rearend.  It will be pretty difficult to use the stock, digital cluster with that set up.

Vic, all the Turbo Coupes came with an buttstuffog cluster. Are you talking about the V8 buttstuffog cluster? I was told only the 88 TBirds had them.

88 tbirds only, however, if you have a 85 up tbird/cougar the will physically fit, but you need difrent sending units(sensors,) like the gas and what not.

If I were you, I would find a full digital cluster. It has more guages then the tubro coupe one, and a built in trip computer.

Just a FYI - if you find one with a base (digital speedo, buttstuffogue gauges) cluster it's far easier to do the swap than if you find one with the full digital. With the base cluster the only sender you have to change is oil, while if you start with a full digital car you have to change the oil, water and fuel senders
