Title: rev limiter
Post by: 87fordboy on March 19, 2006, 07:54:46 PM
does anyone know where the rev limiter is located on a 1987 Ford Thunderbird with a 232 3.8L V6? Cuz it catches me at 85 miles per hour. but the only thing is that the sound will keep going higher but the speedometer will stop

That's cause you're actually going past 85, but that's where the digital speedo stops.  To fix that see here:  http://www.coolcats.net/tech/advanced/199speedo.html

Your car IS going faster than 85, the stock speedo doesn't read any higher after 85 though....
You can modify it to read higher, all the way to 199 mph, I did, and it's kickass! click the link to see how to do it..

EDIT:

You don't have enough horsepower to blow your motor on a top end run (unless you try it in second gear or something). The V6 (and V8) versions of these cars will run out of steam long before they hit redline

The top speed of your car would probably be 110-120 MPH, maybe 130 if you're going down a good long downhill stretch with a tailwind...

Valve float occurs before the rev limit in a 3.8L. Dont ask how i know.
