That sucks, but how does a car catch fire on a trailer? Was it the legendary ignition switch?
Ouch. Single tear.
Course it had to be a sport model too. Judging by the location of the flames, must be the ignition switch. :(
That sucks. My moms '86 3.8L Cougar just had a wiring harness fire in the engine bay too. Seems like the starter solaniod(sp?) shorted out and caused the fire. Just cooked the wiring harness and everything on that side of the inner fender. me and my dad fixed it with the harness from the '84 parts car.
Yeah I never did take my car in for that ingition switch recall...that pic really makes me want to do that now.
either that or they were spaying ether to start it in the maf.
but i would go with ignition switch, either way.. another bird is gone.. :(
Hey I've been there!!
That is all.
I know ign switch in mine was bad. Had all the symptons but it never got hot.
BTW-Didnt the sports have blacked out window trim?
Ouch that sucks. Just because it has "8 hole" wheels doesn't mean it's a Sport (check my sig).
it's not a sport (it has chrome trim on the rear window and door lock), it is a decked out LX though.
change it yourself it isn't that hard. The part is like 8 bucks too. BTW it didn't fix my electrical drain but at least I feel safe about it.
My battery in my dormant T-bird doesn't even have enough power to crank the engine, but I still have to disconnect the battery terminals so I can have peace of mind (I'm just a tad obsessive.) Plus, I only think the switch is bad, it won't fully engage to the "on" position unless you're halfway into the "start" position. In any case, it's one of the things that's getting replaced before I get the car back on the road.
lol did that car go to an autowreckers ? i think my uncle may have it in the yard . he called me and said he has a burnt t-bird that came in not too long ago . i never did go and look .
