Title: Guage faces printed from CoolCats Media section...
Post by: booksix on March 13, 2006, 07:20:12 PM
Who printed there own guage faces from the art given in the media section?  I want to recal. my speedo to 140 and use the art that's on here.  How do they look?  anyone have pics?  Has anyone redone their entire cluster with the white face artwork?  what do you print these images on?  some special paper of plastic something or other?!?  Is it hard to attach them and make it look good?  thanks!

i used a set once just to see how it would look. turned out well. at the very least use good quality paper, even photo paper and leave it at a high resolution, but size it up using something like photoshop.

So if I just printed them straight off, they wouldn't be sized right?

Do you have any pics?

I changed the colors and added the cougar head. But that is where I got those from.

Sweet, thanks for the pic!

do you have any idea how you resized the images from the media section to get it the right size?  Or do I just need to do a trial and error resize in PhotoShop?

also, what'd you print it on?

Its on high gloss photo paper and spray glued to the plastic piece under it.

I can't remember I want to say I did a trial and error in MS Paint. I would be nice and post the images but I had to formatt the hard drive and lost them.

Ok, well sweet!  when I do mine I'll resize from the original until I find the exact percentage of original to resize to and post it here for others.

And one more question:

Are you gluing it over the old face?  I'm just wondering, how does it look at night.  I mean, to look right, all the white would light up, but with the old guage underneath, wouldn't it block the necessary light (since the black face guage only let light through at the numbers...)?

Yes and this is where you can get creative.

You can make one side of the gauge white then reverse it and make the other side red. Then put white light or remove the green plastic covers. That way its red or what ever color you want at night.

You can also put a monogram on the opposite site like the Cougar head that way when the light come threw at night you can see the Cougar head or Thunderbird.

When you remove the old faces you will need to use adhesive remover on the plastic becasue it will leave most of it behind. When I took the black faces off it left most of the color from the tach red line behind.

Wow, that's sweet!  Thanks for the info!  I look forward to this.  I'm gonna do all my guages in white and do a 140 recal.
