Title: race weight?
Post by: gumby on March 11, 2006, 03:06:33 PM
im gettin ready to start a TC project. i have been around fox cars for awhile, but only a lil bit into the Tbirds.
jus found this site and its great for learnin more of small differences between the fox platforms!

was wonderin how much weight you guys have gotten out of your Tbirds, especially the 87-88 cars. looks like they are startin out in the 3500# range. anybody under 3000#? and what all did ya remove to get  to the weight you have now?

im not lookin to "tin can" the car, but most if not all options will be deleted. what will it weigh?

might not help much, but i took off around 40# or less by removing all the airconditioning stuff. all the tar mat in my car weighed around 30# tbird seats adverage 40# + the power assemblys. my cardomain has the weight of mine, but that was a while ago before some modds, also swapping from an automatic to a 5 speed lightened it up a bit too.

Turbo Coupe has his car down to around 3000 doesn't he?  Hopefully he'll chime in here shortly.

bumper supports, carpet insullation door crash bars, remove p/s ,remove a/c, remove heater box and related, remove trunck contents including mat and panels, lighter weight battery, racing seats,

Anything that can be unbolted will take off weight. It all depends on what you are willing to loose.

But if you do all that, just make sure you don't put on a hood with a 17" cowl otherwise all that hard work is blown in one fell swoop.  :rollin:  I thought you were goin to get rid of that thing?  Or is it growin on ya? ;)

if this was gonna be a track only car, OR i would be the only one ever in it, maybe. but i cannot remove anything that will negatively impact the car structurally and still put my family in it.

since this is gonna be a dual purpose, street/autoX car, i need to keep the PS too.

man, im not gonna be loosin much weight this way...guess im jus curious where some of the other dieted cars are weighin in.
