A few months ago I noticed my wireless router log showed a PC named RON connecting to my network at various times. This went on for a while before I decided to put in a WEP key and secure it just to annoy RON. For Christmas I bought a wireless network device for our playstation. It won't work with a WEP key so I opened the network back up for grabs.
While scanning the air, thats when I noticed there was a new wireless network named Homewood. I had a sneaky suspicion that this was Ron (whos apparently a neighbor, maybe across the lake?) I made a mental note to myself to check on it later...
So last night, after returning from Wings and beer, I decide to screw with Ron. After all, he shouldn't mind that I connect to his network since he connected to mine, right?
So its unsecured. Ok I figured as much. Connected with no problem.
Decided to see what other PC's were connected to it.
Checked my ip. Its a 192.168.2.102 so I try to ping .100 and .101
101 is the winner! And guess what the PC's name is? RON
So now Im sure its the same guy.
I check his shares. he doesn't have much except a few pictures of deer and some sunsets. And one lousy looking backed-up web site.
I rename all his folders to have the word dumbass in them.
My Dumbass pictures. My Dumbass Documents. U get the idea.
So I check my gateway ip. And decide to check if he passworded his router. Its a linksys. Guess what? Its got the default password on it from the factory. I contemplate whether or not I should DENY his PC access to the router and internet and really mess up his day. Naw. I don't want to be cruel. I just want to let him know I was there.
So I change his network name from homewood to Dumbass. This gives me a giggle.
OH One more thing. His printer is shared out. Its a DELL.
I decided to print him out a little note on his printer...
Dear Ron,
Glad to see you got your own wireless network instead of connecting to mine. You might want to put a password on your router though.
Cheers,
Your friendly neighbor
This was 10pm at night. So I wonder if he as sleeping when his printer spit that out at him...
Ill be checking often to see if he even knows how to rename his network back to homewood.
This story to be continued as I'm sure I am not done with Ron yet.
