And who did you use and are you happy with them? Pics would be nice. :D Thanks.
I'm making my own. I modified a speedo to go to 140 MPH, converted it to KM/hr, and made up custom white faces (including tach and the smaller gauges) that ape the retro look of the 05 Mustang. I ordered indiglo panels from a guy on eBay for backlighting (light up pure white). I started about six months ago and should be finished the project some time in, oh, say, 2024 :D
BTW, if anyone is thinking of doing their own it's not a hard job, but it's tedious (hence my very long work-in-progress time). I am only doing it because the aftermarket ones available are only for the 85MPH speedo, and I will not take one step forward and two back, so to speak - the Canadian speedo reads up to 120 MPH, so I'll be ed if I'll "downgrade" to 85.
There is a guy that sells in our Vendor's section that wil make custom faces for you if you don't want one of the eBay 85MPH units...
only one person? lies i tell you lies! :)
well I have had a set made by Panther 37, I received them and all but I haven't got a chance to install them. But They turned out amazing and I should have them on the car fairly soon!

Those are sweet, baXo!
so what do you got to do to them, trim them out and wire up??? The guages look sweet. kinda like a digital but buttstuffog LOL
I went ahead and ordered a cheap set from ebay. It was like $20 total. :) I'll post my results.
I have the ebay reverse indiglos in mine. No night pics though, because my camera doesn't take very good pics when it's dark.
Oh, and I mostly like them, but I think I would prefer regular inidglos at night. The problem with these ones is that you can only leave a couple bulbs in the stock cluster or they shine through the background of the gauges and look like ...and with only a couple bulbs, the needles are barely visible. Ah well.
Well the problem with me was I couldn't get the ebay ones due to the fact that I have the canadian speedometer.. Also Panther 37 was able to get them Exactly how I wanted them. So i'm more then happy with the results.
Got my indiglo gauges today. I must say that I am suprized at what I got for $20. :)
Baxo:
Those look AWESOME.
That is all.
I had the same ones for my winter car, Darkthunder. I never installed them though, I couldn't figure out how to get the dash apart haha. I couldn't get past the switch either....I wasn't going to put them in unless I could get them to turn on and off with the regular method. I'm not for having to turn my gauges on after I turn my lights on. I liked the way they looked though.
Don't get me wrong, they're nice lookin gauges. Just kind of a pain in the ass to install (because you slide them OVER the speedo and tach needles), and like I said the needles are hard to see at night. Also I managed to screw up my tach and my oil pressure gauge got stuck after I installed them. Oh well, I installed an aftermarket tach and oil pressure gauge anyway.
Hey billyf- you don't use the switch to turn on the gauges, the switch changes the background to blue or green depending on which way you flip it. They're easy to just hook into the headlight switch, they have tiny wires (so they can't draw too much current), so I just spliced em in.

Love 'em.
Mine didn't work like that, they had an On/Off switch. I had them wired up on my table a few times to show some friends what they looked like at night and I had to push the button to turn them on and then back off. It wasn't a simple switch either, it was a contact switch, so it would make contact and complete the circuit to turn it on and do the same to turn it off. They didn't have different colors either. I just couldn't figure out a way to make them work with just the headlight switch so I didn't bother trying to put them in.
What I don't like about the evilbay ones are the fact that they're for a TC only, no '88 Sport versions, and none available, either.
I already emailed the outfit that makes 'em, and they don't plan on making em either, dammit.
Is Panther37 still around on here?
I'd like to see about a set of gauge faces....
The thing I hate about the ebay ones is the 85MPH speedo. I can forgive the TC tach, I can forgive the fact that he won't make a Canadian version, but I cannot forgive the fact that they only come in 85MPH versions and not 140MPH versions...
yeah, that's another gripe of mine, too
why didn't you paint your needles Red_lx? I can see how they would be hard to see at night.
I thought about it, but since the only thing that really helps you see the needles is the small amount of light that comes through them with a couple of bulbs still in the cluster (the speedo and tach needles that is). The accessory gauge needles aren't lit at all so painting them wouldn't help...
It's just the black background that's the problem.
any results darkthunder? I'm gonna attempt this on my TC when they get here. I ordered a set last night let me know how it went for ya and if there are anythings that i need to know when I go to do this. thanks
I need to get some glue because some of my guages aren't staying put. I did test them with a battery and it does appear that the on/off switch does indeed turn them on and off. And it isn't a memory switch either, so you will need to push the button every time you want your guages to come on. I need to figure a way around this as I think that is kinda lame. Actually... I may have a solution.
Other than that I like them. But I can't give a full eval until I get some road time with them. My TC won't be mobile for a couple more weeks.
That doesn't make any sense...like I said I wired mine directly into my headlight switch. They come on when I switch on the headlights, and the switch that looks like an "on-off" switch changes the background color between blue and green. I know I didn't get a fluke and get the only kit that you can do that with :P
Also, I had problems with the accessory faces staying in place too so I put some double-sticky scotch tape on the back of them. It's held them in place for 2 years so far...

I think if you used a relay that was triggered off of the headlight switch, it would turn on your gauges.
I just cut out the switch and spliced the wires together and that did the trick. I want to do the headlight relay mod... I honestly can't believe they don't come like that from the factory.
And yes you must of gotten a fluke kit. xD
they used to sell the blue/green faces on ebay but havent seen them for a while guess we will see what I get when they come.
guages came today and I have them installed in the cluster, where is the best place to tap them into a power supply since you have to manually turn them on and off? and is there a way to bypass the switch to make them come on with the dash lights? installing the cluster in the morning. thanks for any and all help
Just wire it through a relay...
Run a wire from the "power" wire on your headlight switch through the relay as the signal wire, and then run the power wire for the gauges across the other side of the relay. Then they'll come on with the headlights.
basicly you should be able to cross it into any source that lights up when u turn on the lights cus those shouldnt take too much power...
