all right this is a dumb queston but you guys have always given me the best advice so here it is: i have an 88 cougar with a 7.5 in conventional 3.08 differential. when i drive in the snow all my power goes to my right wheel all the time. why is this? i know its a dumb question. thanks
its because you dont have a traction loc diff. its an open diff. AKA "the one wheel wonder"
the one side is prolly worn alot more too. I doubt your right tire is always slipping.
One Tire Fire.
One Wheel Peel.
Not a dumb question. The reason why your right wheels spins and not the other on an open diff is the design of the carrier. Here is a link: http://www.4x4abc.com/4WD101/diff.html

my left wheel goes when i give it gas though. i dont know what im trying to ask but i just wish i had a locker
yeah it's my left too... But probably cause it's got no tread... weld up them spider gears!!! Muah ha ha ha
Not on the street you don't. They suck for street driving because they lock the two rear wheels together and don't work like a regular diff when turning. A limited slip or "Traction Lock" diferential like I have turns both wheels together in a straight line but acts like a normal diff around turns. BTW traction locks are fun. If I stomp on the gas from a stop I can lay 2 nice 5' long black makes on the pavement :hick: . Sure beats the hell out of the "one wheel peal":D
know anywhere i can get a traction lok? lol
Look at wreckers for a TC or a fox body Cobra.
