and I was watching Burt Reynolds smoke the tires on that T/A all over the place. And it got me to thinking... what was the factory hp rating on a '77 Trans Am with the 6.6L?
Also, in that one part where he picks up sally fields, he burns the tires and then lays rubber in 2nd...with an automatic no less! Could a factory '77 TA do that? I thought those things sucked.
The car in the movie had a extremely hopped up engine.
That reminds me of the last time I saw that movie. I was at this girls house and we started to watch it. She decided to get frisky with me and climbed up on top of my lap taking her top off. I was getting into her, but at about that time I heard that T/A burn some rubber! Man I was off that nipple and moving her aside to see burt reynolds slide her sideways! After that I told her she would have to turn the movie off.
They put 2 different large displacement motors in those cars between 77-79. One was made by Pontiac, the other by Olds.
The Pontiac is actually listed in parts manuals as a 6.4. The Olds motor is listed as a 6.6. I believe they labeled both of them as 6.6's when in the cars though.....
Here's a comparison by year:
1977
Pontiac 400 Vin Code Z HP: 180@3600RPM TQ: 325@1600RPM
OLDS 403 VIN Code K HP: 185@3600RPM TQ: 320@2200RPM
1978
Pontiac 400 Vin Code Z HP: 180@3600RPM TQ: 320@1600RPM
** TRANS AM ONLY: HP 188@3600 TQ: 340@1700
OLDS 403 VIN Code K HP: 185@3600RPM TQ: 315@2200RPM
1979
Pontiac 400 Vin Code Z HP: 220@4000RPM TQ: 320@2800RPM
OLDS 403 VIN Code K HP: 185@3600RPM TQ: 320@2200RPM
80 and 81 were the years of the Turbo 301
1980
VIN Code T HP:185@4000 TQ: 280@2000
1981
VIN Code T HP:210@4000 TQ: 340@2000
Compare that to a 1987 HO 302 HP: 225@4000 TQ 300@3000
My current combo is good for an estimated 360 hp at the crank at 5500RPM with 370 TQ around 3500. I love progress!

Don't go home. Don't go to eat. And don't play with yourselves. It wouldn't look good on my highway.
You can think about it. But dooon't do it.

That is one of the all-time greatest car movies, IMO...
Awhile back, on one of those car shows they're always having on speedvision, they had Burt and the TA featured, he was talkin' smack about it to the the show's host, ended up by taking a ride in it, at the end...it was great...
I guess he owns one of the TA's from the movies.....?
I can chirp the tires at 2nd with auto and my 3.8......
Yeah, my last tranny fluid change was with type F fluid...
Really, i like the this movie. i Saw it several years ago. These times were when the cars where the main attraction (ex. Kitt, cannonball run, etc etc)
You want to see them really over-act a car. Watch the 2nd movie. Turbo T/A's are not as they appear. Not sound nor power. My cousin has an '80 identical to the one in the movie and it's sad. Very pretty though.
I love these movies. I have the soundtracks on 8-track.
The 2nd movie sucks and has a retarded plot, I think I watched part of it once and have never seen it again.
