It wouldn't hurt to do a 3g conv. just for daily driven cars. I remember in my 85, if it was raining at night I was screwed. With lights, wipers, and A/C or heat plus radio turn signals etc. things got pretty dim at stoplights. The turnsignals flashed about every ten seconds, and the wipers slowed way down.

It will work, but still do the 3g upgrade, you will be alot happier.

The Mark alternator is the same bad design, the wiring harness is a major fire hazard.  Plus its got an external voltage regulator.

Do the 3G swap.
