I have recently put turbines with 265/50r15 cooper cobras on the cougar and i'm having some rubbing issues. For example going down a freeway exit ramp at 45 or more, or braking hard while cornering. I cant for the life of me figure out where it is rubbing i tried putting a little chalk on the tire but i couldnt see anything. Any ideas where it might be rubbing and if i can fix it without changing tires and/or my rim backspacing.
quad shocks? inner fender? exhaust? parking brake cables? that's all i can think of at the moment.
mine where rubbing the exhaust so I bought some spacers.
As I mentioned before...265's are too wide for the 7" wide wheel....
They are squirming all over on you, that's what is causing the rub...
And yes, turbines are 15x7's...the 8" measurment is from outside to outside yes..but the actual rim bead width is 7"...on the inside of the lip.
:iagree: I think the widest tire you can fit without having any rubbing issues would probably be a 245. When I took the set of 15" Progressive wheels I bought from shame302 to a tire shop here, that was the beefiest tire they could put on it and not have it touch anything turning the front wheels lock-to-lock.
Even just for proper fitment, not accounting for rubbing issues, 265 is too wide.
225 bulges a good bit on a 15x7, couldnt imagine a 265
I am running 265/50 15's on the rear of my cat and 225's up front. I needed the larger tire to overcome wheel hop, I like my torque box. I recently removed my quad shocks but when they were in I had no rubbing issues. The tires are Futura (Pep boys specials) on turbines. I know Crystal had 275's on her 10holes on the sport with no rubbing issues also.
I have 245/45-17s all the way around with no problems.
My rears dont rub at all but my front does and nothing touches when i turn the wheels lock to lock there is no problem with the tires on the rims i'll have to get some good pics soon but the only time i have rub is when the car goes down on the suspension hard and only if the wheels are turned to the right like going down a freeway loop a little fast and hitting a bump or taking a hard corner and realizing that there is a car in your line and having to slam on the brakes. Other than that there are no issues.
I wouldn't worry about it then. Just take those freeway loops a little slower. ;)
ive ran both ends of the spectrum without rubbing.
on a stock 15x7 10 hole/turbine the largest/widest is a 235/70/15
on a 15x8 with a 5.5 back spacing a 275/60/15 fits with no rubbing.
