Hey all....Just recently found this forum and decided to go from lurker to poster and along the way combine my intro with a pic post of my cat.

Okay so you draw my attention by saying you have a low mileage cat. I open your thread and find no mileage listed. What gives? But since you posted pics in your first post and we didn't have to tell you to, you're ok.

JUST KIDDING!!

Welcome aboard.:D
Cougar looks to be in pretty decent shape. So what is the mileage anyway?

Just under 91000 Miles and 144740 Kms. Might not be all that low of milage compared to others on here but compared to my Cavi RS it is low.

Wow  odd optioned car.  Looks like an 85?  buttstuffog clock?  No power windows/ seats?  Can't really tell on the door locks?  And no make out lights in the rear?  Am/Fm radio only?

Whao, that buttstuffog clock is freaking crazy.  It's kind of funny how Infiniti's and Audi's and other luxury cars these days have buttstuffog clocks as a sign of elegance, yet they were considered standard equipment back then.

Funny enough a few people on the Jbody forum im a member on had the same reaction to the cougar lol But anyways the Jbody would easily run circles around the cougar right now given its further ahead when it comes to mods and is getting a new engine here in the summer.

Its a 94 Rs. At the moment its got a Warm air intake as well as a removed cat and a dynomax ler. But come summer the 2.2 4 cyl is being replaced with a redone 3.1 V6 thats gonna have some tweeks done to it before its dropped into the car. along with a lowering suspension. The cavi is an ongoing project that im slowly building up for autocross racing.

cool stuff. My freind has a 89 2.8 z24 convertable cavi. Decent cars. I am alittle off on my years though. All I know, is that they got the new grill in 92ish.

Actually we have a 97 cavy z24 here as a back up car.  Its got 185k miles and runs like its new.  I just got done sinking alota dough into the brakes on it. That  thing is fast for a four popper!  Other than things like the door panel coming apart and various other trim peices breaking its been a  good car.  But hey its got a hell of a lot of miles.  I've actually wan'ted to pick one up myself and see if I could shoehorn a caddy 4.9 in one.  It will bolt to the tranny.  But the rest is another story.

The biggest thing I don't like about it and could see being a problem for your autocross project.  That strait axle in the back.  I would have thought a car like this to have some means of an independent suspension.

Oddly enough even though the J bodies are straight axle in the rear with the right suspension they handle around the track pretty  good. I have driven my RS on the track a few times and even though it had the soft suspension in it at the time i managed to improve between the three runs pretty good once i got a feel for the car. But i have also ridden in a fellow Jspeed members Z with the same suspension im putting into it and all i gotta say is .....night and day difference. With that car the owner can do the track in around 50 seconds while it takes me 83 seconds to do the same track and most of the other cars out there the night i was and this including vipers and a bunch of imports were doing about mid 70 seconds on the track. Soon enough the RS will essentially be a lighter version of the Z because im pulling out any excess weight that isnt needed. The reason i said the Cavi would easily out run the cougar is because i have raced the twin to my RS except it was an auto and it worked me pretty good.

One thing im wondering though....it appears my left door is from a bird and i want to change back to a cougar door panel to get the interior mint but im wondering if theres any differences under the panel that may hinder me using a cougar panel on the Tbird door.

Thats wierd, a center console with an empty floor shifter opening like that from the factory??

Anyway, its a shame a low mileage car is ruined by rust..

The T-Bird and Cougar doors are identical, so you'll have no problem installing a Cougar panel. Finding one without power windows will prove a challenge though, and finding a tan one won't be easy either. Seems most of these cars had red, blue, grey, black (raven) or brown interiors

Ron: I've actually got one of those trays installed in my car, removed from an '85 V8 'Bird. Before I found it I had an '83 Cougar tray (the whole console is from an '83) but it didn't match the grain of the radio/HVAC bezel (or the switch tray). I stumbled upon the 85 unit in a junk yard - it was actually in a car that had the old Motorsports body kit/grille/spoiler on it. I would've snagged all that stuff too but it wouldn't fit my '88 and nobody seemed interested here or on NATO, so I left 'em there. The car has long since gone to the crusher.

Well as soon as spring hits i plan on painting the lower body from the moldings down silver replicating the XR7 scheme. Would like to find an XR7 front bumper to fit in with that scheme.

Perhaps adding a TC hood too if i dont go with the Mustang GT scoop
