Title: Any of you guys work at Advance auto parts? I got a question
Post by: Red_LX on February 23, 2006, 11:43:57 PM
Why the hell is it that I can go online and look up stuff at Advance, and yet if I go to the store it won't even show it on their computer? Example, I decided to just buy a new flywheel for my car rather than have the one in it turned, so I went on the website and they listed one for $50, with a $40 core charge. So I went in and brought one of my spare flywheels in for the core. The guy goes in the computer, and the only one they show is this one for $68.88 that doesn't require a core. WTF?

most the time in confusion the people that work the counter are stuipified... they weren't correctly looking it up, or they're total n00bs at that job.  Make sure you hit a manager up with questions, and don't get the weak minded high school kid.  Other than that maybe you looked it up on the net wrong?  If not print it out and take it down there and make them give you the one for the 68 bucks at a discounted 50 bucks or you will call there district manager and complain!

The explaination from the Advance Auto here is that they don't stock all the parts that they list on the web site. Alot of those parts, and the prices listed for them, are web only. I ran into that same problem when I was looking for my Performance Friction brake pads. They had them listed on the site, and they were cheaper than Vato-Zone, but when I when in they didn't have them. Most of the time I just end up going to Vato-Zone and giving them the online price from Advance and they usually pricematch for me.

Well, I don't know.

When I look up flywheels on the Advance/parts america website, it shows 3 or 4 different ones.

At the store, they go on the computer, and they have one flywheel and one flexplate. I don't get it?

Maybe I'll have to go ask...I hadn't really wanted to pay almost $70 for a new flywheel when they had that one for $50.

I used to be an Asst. Store Manager at one, and the web based store was up for about a year before I quit.  The website does have more parts available on it than you can get at the store.  I usually click 'check store stock' or whatever that button is to see if the store has it.  Then I take the part number to them.  I don't tell them what its for because the average person working there is an idiot.  Its hard to find a good parts guy at those stores.

Ya I learned not to price stuff online and then go there and buy whatever parts are there.  My girlfriend's TC needed rotors...online 30 a piece...the cheapest there was 45.  So I got those...go home and they were 10" brakes.  Even though they were listed under TurboCoupe.  Sometimes there listing is a bit off...also the cheapest ABS brakes listed were close to 100 a piece....so I decided...she can live without ABS (I was the one buying the parts).  I just wonder if the ABS rotors were still 10" or if they were the correct 11".  We ended up buying like 89 Mustang GT non-ABS rotors.  37 a piece.....so cheaper than the cheapest 10" rotors?  I don't get those cheap parts stores.

Well, that wasn't too bad...I took that page in when I went to pick the parts up, and asked the guy why it didn't show up on the store computer. He said it must be a web only item, then he gave me a couple coupons for $5 off my next purchase of $25 or more.
