Title: IMCO Turbo lers
Post by: Carl on February 17, 2006, 05:09:26 PM
Has anyone ever used them? I put headers on and am putting on some IMCO lers, because I guess the flowmasters wont fit. I want a mean sound from my cat, I know flowmaster is the king. But how do the IMCO Turbos sound?

Why?

i had flowmaster 40s and delta flow 40s in my cars before and they fit fine, they make different sizes and combinations of in's and out's for different apps. as far as the IMCO lers, i dont know how they'll sound because i cant find a cutaway of one. with a name like turbo, i would think high flow, straite through. BUT the site says...

two-baffle, two-fully- perforated- cores.

so i guess not lol... :dunno: the pictures on the site if their all setup the same way inside, i'd guess alot quieter than a flowmaster because of the way the baffles are setup, the flowmaster has them setup to echo, but this looks like it flows rite out, and has a small chamber to resonate.

Turbo lers are made by a bunch of companies, and they are pretty much universally the same on the inside. They use an S-shaped flow path with perforated "flow tubes" and fiberglass packing. They're quiet, and not always the best for power. Turbo lers are kinda like glasspacks in that some are expensive, some are cheap, and you can get them almost anywhere.

exactly, but when i read the discription during a few searches for that particular ler, i read about the baffles and perferated core? why wouldnt they emphisize the straite through design, eather way tho, its going to be quieter than a flowmaster, and result in less torque. i wouldnt realy use them unless i had a turbo car to put em on, or i wanted to be expecialy quiet

Well I guess in the minds of these guys...glasspacks are the straight-through lers and turbo lers are the quiet lers. I only know of two companies off the top of my head that make straight through, "big" case lers with packing...Hooker and Dynomax. For some reason, they aren't very common.

THe IMCO turbo lers are chambered. The have a sound more like a stock Vette instead of a mustang with flowmasters.

I guss the ler shop said the F/M wouldn't fit? On the right side the fuel filter can be in the way on the early foxes.

yeah I had them move the filter. I am going to see how they sound. I already have a V force Flowmaster, that I have had for a while. so I will keep that. I am going to have no cats though and turn downs so, that should crank the sound up a bit. You think?

I have dual exhaust with the same IMCO lers you are describing.  They are not very loud at all... slightly louder than stock but not much.  However I think they are of decent quality and a lot cheaper than Flowmasters.

My car is a v8 with cats removed and chrome turndowns.  Basically the lers are just loud enough to let people know you have a V8 but thats about it.

Wow, nevermind these things purr really good at idle. When I hit it they are loud! This 4.6 Mustang pulled up behind a WRX STI I was lined up with. We did not race, but when I hit it both of them had a what the F*#@ look on their faces. Mission Accomplished!

Headman Headers.

Straight Pipes.

IMCO Turbos.

So here is a video for everyone, she was running at a high idle. Had that "problem" for a while. I have gotten used to it. It is actually rare now, but still happens sometimes.

ENJOY! and you can tell this exhaust is mean! just listen!

car sounds good, i think the headers and no cats help alot.

the imco lers are nice, Id buy another set if my mustang had stock lers.

had equal short headers, offroad h and imco single chambers on my 88 :)

Ya man, if you had the flowmasters on it'd sound AWESOME.  I'm suprised that it is rather mean sounding as it is! My friend has one on his v6 stang, and I think when I had my stock lers with all the ypipes and cats, sounded louder then his.

But ya, looks like you got yourself a nice cat there. Glad the exhaust set up worked out for you in the end. Nice car :)
