Title: exhaust question
Post by: Master_xzavior on February 16, 2006, 02:18:16 AM
ok here we go again. My bird came out with the 3.8 engine in it. Y pipe instead of duals the normal set up. income tax time is coming real real real soon and we're putting  a 302 in. Is it a requirement to change the exhaust or will the Y pipe work on a 302? I know its going to cut back on power and torque, but will it bolt up and work long enough to save up some more money to do it right. also the engine will have mustang shorty headers on it which I'm sure makes a difference.
Thanks
Dan

you'll for sure have to snag an exhaust from a V8 bird or cougar...
I got one from an 85 Bird I parted out long ago, that'll be made to fit till  I get the dough to have custom duals ran, with the flowmaster 40's I have ;)

ok so now would be a good time to snag an hpipe for it. the mustang h pipes should work all right shouldnt it?

someone more knowledgeable than me will have to answer that, I don't know what hits and fits from a Mustang to Bird/Coug.
I would assume that from the manifolds/headers back to at least the cats or h-pipe, it'd be nearly similar...

I did some research on this and just so we both know in the future yes the mustang h pipes work. Its amazing what you learn when you actually take the time to read Eric's site.:D
