On this date in 1965, Canada unfurled its new maple leaf flag. The new national flag was first raised in Ottawa on this date in 1965.
I don't know what it is, but everytime I hear Canada mentioned I always think about this board. lol
It's because you're in love with me man..

You betcha! I dream about you and your car all the time! ;)
What flag did Canaduh have before the maple leaf? A British flag?
It was based on the British flag (had the Union Jack in the corner)
The Union Jack. Same as the US, before you forced the Brits to skiddadle. Ever wonder where the Red White and Blue came from? ;)

Who can tell me where all these crosses and X's came from? There's a cookie in it for you.
Those are the crosses of St. Andrew, St. Patrick, and St. George, aren't they? They represent a combination of the flags of Scotland (Andrew), Ireland (Patrick), and England (George).

Various other designs for a common flag were drawn up following the union of the two Crowns in 1603, but were rarely, if ever, used. The two shown here include St George's cross with St Andrew's cross in the canton, and another version where the two crosses are side-by-side. Also, some Scots were upset that the Scottish flag was underneath the English flag in the version finally adopted, and preferred a version where the Scottish cross was on top (the English flag was placed between the cross of St Andrew and its background).
You were the first to answer. So here.

Bah. shiznit, sorry man. cookie monster is such a hog.
And what Carmen said is true. (had to check Wikipedia though) The Union Jack was used up until 1965. From '57-65 Canadians also had the de facto Canadian Flag.

In '64 Pearson started 'The Great Flag Debate'. And these were the choices.
