Title: Wheel centercaps?
Post by: slowfoxbird on February 14, 2006, 09:04:55 PM
I am wondering if anyone knows of some Thunderbird centercaps that will fit this wheel style.  I got an awesome deal on them, but if I have to live with the running horses, I guess that will be ok until I get the set of wheels I really want.

This may be a rather stupid and pricey solution, but have you guys thought of having them machined? I'm sure that there would be enough material there that you could mill them down to the level of the horse.

no can do, the horse is pressed into the cap, if you flip it you can see the inverted horse. the cheap solution i came up with is filling it with body filler, then trying to replicate the circular groves like the rest of the cap has, kinda like a record.

Hmm, body filler would be possible, becuase mine are actually the painted wheels.  I just stole that pic off of ebay cause it was the best example.  I could fill it in, repaint, and then put a vynl (sp?) sticker of the 'Bird in the center!  How about that idea?

Well, niizhmkwa, I would have to know what those centercaps are off of so that I can try them.

they look like the ford centers off the mustang 10 holes, if so, they dont fit, along with mn12 centers ect.

Yeah, I think the body filler, and a repaint is going to be the easiest thing to do.

The Pony wheel from Mustangs will fit those rims. You can find them in blanks with no emblem, but getting them to look polished like the rim would be the hard part.

why not have the thunderbird emblem cut through into the cap slightly larger then the pony? What i mean is basicly cut the pony out and have a hole through the cap in the shape of a thunderbird emblem...would look pretty trick of someone were to figure out how to backlight the hole after...
