I'm getting ready to put in a 5.0SO in my '88, and have a pair of Flowmasters for it afterwards, I heard them on my bud's 92 Stang GT, and it had a decent low rumble, but then he had coughcoughguttedcatscoughcough.
Fairly loud at higher revs, but not what I'D term excessive...
I hear Borla is along those lines too, low and rumbly but without the Nascar scream at WOT.

If you have the stock performance, then I wouldn't put anything louder than 50-series Flowmasters with cats.  If you don't use cats, then I would go with the next quietest series.

I don't like having a car that is guilty of "false advertisp00get."  We've heard plenty of imports with a lot of audible show, but no go.

If a car is really loud, then it should be really fast with performance mods so it can live up to its sound.

Basically, I would go with one step louder and deeper than what you have now, and no more.

How far do you plan on taking your exhaust? Headers? H-pipe?

i would do headers, and h-pipe, and some super turbo style lers, like dynomax, or borla

Aren't cherry bombs just glasspacks? Glasspacks just make it sound like a pickup truck.

lol, all joking aside, I like the sound of my dynomax racing bullets! They have a very unique sound, and for the price, you can't beat 'em. Also, space was limited on my car when I installed the duals, so that was the best way to go.

Oh I disagree, exhaust sound is all in good fun.  My exhaust system rusted off from the Flowmaster back, and its quite a treat.  Still slow as molasses, but you can hear that tractor sound from a mile away.  In addition, a buddy has been driving with open headers (er, manifolds) for about a month now with nothing but smiles and just a 5.0 thats not very fast.

But I digress, this is Georgia.

Oh yeah, +1 for Dynomax Racing Bullets!

Hell, if you're gonna run Dynomax Bullets, why run lers at all? Those  things have maybe 1/2" of packing on any given side and nothing but a perforated core :hick: Glorified glasspacks really.

I had a set of those on my car with dumps for about a week. God, did they sound like  (partly the fault of the 2.3L though. heh)

Probably to prove to the cop that your car does have lers.  I can't imagine that they would tame anything much at all.

I completely agree on this comment. I have been told by multiple police officer it is up the officers judgment on what is too loud. There is no set standard where I live on what is too loud.

i had a cop pull me over and ask me to get back in my car and start it up... he bent down and put his face up to the exhaust tip...  Oh how i wanted to make him wet his pants with the the v8!!!  But she idles real good and it sounds reasonable...  until i take off in first and gun it til she can't take no more!
