Title: '88 cougar in MM&FF
Post by: 87tbirdmanjwg on February 09, 2006, 12:13:40 AM
On page 228 of the march issue of Muscle Mustangs & Fast fords There is a small article on a '88 xr7 cougar with an HO conversion and a 5 speed! Very nice looking car...rather amazed that MM&FF would devote any space at all to a non mustang fox..

I'm stunned. I always laugh that they call themselves MM&FF when in fact it's rare they have anything other than Mustangs in there featured.

That's because Mustangs are Fast Fords for the most part. Way to kill two birds with one stone. ;)
Yeah, have you ever submitted your car? It's too friggin sweet.

Yeah no kiddin' Hawk. That car belongs in a magazine. I'm not talking "Readers Rides" either, man. You could be a feature for sure.

I triied getting the awsome cars on here, some exposure in MM&FF, with a FOX VS MN12 shootout, but as far as I know nobody jumped at it. If they seen some of these cars, like the hawk, Erics, cougars2go, Blown306s, and the others, I bet they would be intrested in a feature car.

Gentlemen,
We have decided to postpone the shootout until next year, as seven of the nine people selected have backed out due to various reasons, most of which had nothing to due with the relatively short notice of the event. It mostly came down to bad timing and while we did come up with four well-rounded contestants after including some of our alternates, we feel the TC, SC, Thunderbird and Cougar group would be best served by scheduling the shootout sometime in March or April of 2006, when we could organize the event a little better and hopefully produce a bumper crop of street beasts for the article.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused, but we want you guys to be well-represented and feel this is the best option. Those who were chosen for this event will be automatically included next year, while we hope to also receive a few more entries from those who didn't hear about the event, or couldn't make it because their cars were down. That being said, I will be saving the emails from those who were selected and will contact them when the event has been rescheduled. We will also be hitting the website forums and will announce the time of entry submission in the Horse's Mouth news column, which is where we normally make note of shootouts.
Thank You,
Steve

I sent them stuff (and 5.0 Mustang & Super Fords) a couple years ago after the engine swap was done.....never heard a peep and frankly I'm not surprised.
By and large it's a known fact that MM&FF won't go out of their way to do a feature on a car unless it's something they think is really special that the readership will be into.....they primarily only cover cars that are local to them or cars that happen to be at an event they are covering. I guy I know of who lives in my area got his car into 5.0 and the only reason it got featured was twofold:
1)It was an exceptionally well done Mustang 2)He happened to be in a car show at a FFW event they we're covering (Norwalk I believe) They did the photo shoot at the event.
With that said: Sure I'd like to see my hard work and our T-Birds given some acknowledgement in a major mag but I won't lose any sleep over it or go outta my way to get it done (driving across country for example).....I'm perfectly content with the kudos I get from my fellow enthusiasts here on the forum, at the local cruise nights and Ford car shows because to me, they're the only people who have a valued opinion in my book and they're the ones I appreciate the most.
BTW, thanks to all who feel my Bird is worthy of mag material...it's much appreciated.

We should be bowing to you. Layla will be lucky to be half as cool. Give Hemmings Muscle Machines a shout though. They've offered to come do my cars but wanted any exceptional TBirds/Cougars to apply as well.

Hawk, your car is as sweet looking as any Mustang, and I'm sure you could toast the majority of them too! --- Heck, I even rarely lose a race on street night at the track. Too bad the 20th is such a love it or hate it car in my case, though I might email them about the shootout since the thing is running like an animal since the forged slugs refresh & Flowzilla intake. But your ride would toast mine & most of the 'Stangs - like I said...

I fifth or sixth the Badass title of Hawks car. Did you guys catch the Letter of the Month in this months mag too? It's kind of surprising since it is pretty much badmouthing MM&FF. Now I've always read this magazine to get ideas for my car, and check out new parts and stuff, but I guess the guy does have a valid point. There are other Fords out there, and they're plenty fast, so why wouldn't they feature a few of them like their name implies they would. Oh well. As far as I'm concerned these forums are the only T-bird reading material I need.

No. I was gonna do it last year for curiosity sake but it just never happened.

That doesn't surprise me. I was an avid reader for years....now I'll only buy it if something really good is in it which isn't too often very more......too many ads, too many py Mustangs featured ( they've shown just a little too much "riced out" stuff IMO) And now they cater more to the modular motor crowd.
I still think the best mag of all time was Super Fords....they covered everything Ford.

Amen to that! Those old mags are just a goldmine of info. It's just too bad that, like most things that happened in the 1990's, it got absorbed into a disappointing amalgamation of a company.

Amalgamation was talked about in another thread. A bunch of you half a$$ed guys need to be amalgamated into a$$ wholes.
