So I'm getting yet another new toy, http://www.ferdbird.com/SVO/, so I figured I'd go on a stang board and ask a few questions since of course I have some ideas to customize the car.
Now when I come on here and ask if parts swap, 9 out of 10 times I'll get a definitive answer. When I go there they basically just say "huh?"
So after giving it some though I came to the conclusion that it's kind of good that there's not much of an aftermarket for out cars... it keeps us on our toes and it definately keeps us creative.
I guess stay tuned for the shows this summer. The SVO will probably be my ride of choice for the year and trust me, it won't be just another mustang. The sport is rotting again and it's just a battle that can't be won.
awesome little woman...so what have you been up too?
That's why they drive Mustangs and not T-Birds - no imagination :D
So you still have that TC? If so at least you've got plenty of spare drivetrain parts. I have always loved the SVO's...
I joined a Mustang board to find info on my '05. I don't post there too much. With all the magazine info that is out there and available right now, it's easier to just read it or google something than to wait for the wash-women to actually answer a technical question.
Exactly what I was thinking
Why not swap the drivetrain in to a tbird and make a tc clone and s the stang shell just to piss them off? i'm an asshole :flip:
As of right now my sport will be my daily driver. The rot has gotten too deep and it will be a never ending battle to catch it all. The turbo coupe is hanging out in the back yard until our garage/apt. is done (in progress here http://www.ferdbird.com/barn). I have very big plans for the turbo coupe... it should come out of hiding for the 07 season ;)
The SVO is actually in relatively good shape and I'm getting a great deal on it. My plan is this... I'm having a mustang hood louvered up and sent from Boston (but of course). I'm going to do a frenched antenna on it like the sport has as well. Once the hood gets here I plan on doing a bit of custom work to it. I will probably be cutting the front by a few inches to allow for a grill for airflow for the FMIC I had on my 85 t/c. Then of course I need to make a custom grill and get some nice wheels for it. The interior needs work, but that will have to come at a later date.
Once I have all the metal work done it's being repainted black with a frost blue pearl. I'll be doing all the bodywork and paint at school so I have access to some decent equipment at least.
And I would never destroy an SVO. You have to remember that most mustang guys hate SVO's anyway since they're not V8's.
I'm just hoping my knee isn't as bad as the doctors think it is because that may set me back a bit (see weight loss thread)
You can't really ask most Mustang people about SVO's because they know nothing about them. SVO's are just too different.
Turboford would be a better place.
Ive wanted an svo for years. There just not around my area.
is it a bi wing delete car? surely not a comp prep model:eek:
I've never seen an SVO around my area.
And yea your right Crystal, even Corral.net seems to be filled with a bunch of duds.
Nice svo arent that many around here in toledo, infact the only other one i have seen was one of my friends mothers roommates, he had one but im pretty sure he got rid of it.
the Guy 3 doors down has an '86 in great shape. One of these days I'll talk him into selling it. He don't drive it too much nowadays so it may be soon....
LOL, sounds like a good plan Paul :)
I could understand a general mustang board not knowing much about SVO's, but all I asked about was swapping some body panels and was met with total confusion.
Oh well, I guess that's why I've never been drawn to the mustangs...
What body panels exactly?
The whole front end on an SVO is SVO-specific, you can't swap individual parts with those from any other mustang.
The rest of the car is general issue Mustang except for the bi-wing spoiler.
There you have it Crystal, you get more SVO tech on this board than a mustang board!
Isn't the body moulding different as well?
Well they don't have belt-line molding on the sides between the wheelwells, I do know that much. Otherwise I'm not sure... the molding line that goes around the bumpers may also be different.
The rear quarters are also different. You can use 91-93 fenders but you have to drill a couple extra holes. As far as the front suspension and k-member, it is SVO only.Pray to GOD that you never need ball joints, I paid over 200 for a set of used lower control arms a couple years ago, I doubt they have gotten any cheaper. And thats if you can find them. You also will pay out the nose for brake parts just because it is an SVO.That is pretty much the reason I got rid of mine.
I have a chance to get another one but I dont think it would be worth getting due to the fact parts are so expensive.
Forgot to add, Congrads on the SVO Crystal.
Thanks,
Chris
Congrats on the SVO Crystal. Since you are planning on modding the SVO but wantn good info, I would suggest turboford. The SVOCA is run by a bunch of snob-asses (from what I understand..at least that's what the SVO guys on TF say :p...I don't know since I don't have an SVO...so no reason to visit the SVO site) You'll get better tech at TF anyway.
Thanks guys :)
So far four eyed pride doesn't seem too bad. At least they pointed me in the right direction for some parts I need and only one guy made a comment on the birds :nono:
I've been debating swapping a couple pieces for my mods and keeping the stock stuff tucked away, still up in the air about that though...
the brakes shouldn't be bad, they use the lincoln brakes
nice car.. i have always been a fan of those.
SVO = rare every where. but i have come across one at the local u pull it 2 months ago but the k-member was gona and interior was . same place i found a turbo 83 GT. couldnt belive it. was a running car and wated 3hundo for it i should have bought it .
83 Gt Turbo > SVO in regards to rare...by like a factor of 5....
They made VERY few GT Turbos in '83
theres an 86 svo areound here in a guys yard. its been there for a good 8 years since ive noticed it. i checked it out once. the interior was clean and it had 60 something thousand miles on it. it was his kids that died in a car accident. almost no rust at the time. it had a blown head gasket cracked windsheild and tail light. silver on grey interior. it hasnt moved an inch, eccept maybe down closer too the ground. the guy refuses too let it go. its a shame its wasting away like that...
A guy down the street from me has an 84 or 85 (last year for the turbo GT) Convertable.
