Post by: DreWRoolZ on January 30, 2006, 05:12:26 PM
My side molding stuff is all cracked up and sum of it startin to turn yellow. I was wondering if anyone knows sumwhere that can fix that or do you think it might look good if i just took it off before I repaint it eventually? Thanks.

Not sure what year of car you are talking about but the 83-86 had this chrome type stuff on the upper side of it. That seemed to be most of the problem for me. I just cut off that clear covering that was all cracked. then peeled the chrome stuff off. Also I pulled it off the car and pulled all the metal backed sticky tape off them then laid them on the floor and they went back to flat. They are made of poly. I've seen many cars that they are painted on. I have tried painting them my self though. hope this helps

If its the body molding your looking for, I had a couple pieces that were bent so I got replacements from Aerobird  Motorsports.

From what I got from an email, Aerobird carries the moulding only for 87-88 cars.  I'm still looking for a decent replacement for my 86 in chrome, but there is nothing even in the ballpark around here.

Why couldn't you just do as I did then just put some of that chrome tape stuff on the upper edge if you must have the chrome. Right behind the factory chrome there is a layer of hard gray plastic. I bet when you were done you could even clear coatr it to make it last longer.

Actually we have the 86 stuff too :D I'm not fast enough to get everything on the website, hence a paper catalog :D

I saw I tip: Use Apple Vinagar on the black part of the side moulding.  I used an old Tshirt, LOTS of elbow grease (like 5 min per linear foot) and ended up with the molding looking much better.  Some parts where the chrome is in the middle are yellow, and I will consider the use of the chrome tape stuff... It can only look better!
