okay, sitting at work. thinking.. rally car... thinking.. small rwd.. available in the us..
then my brain stopped.. cause small and rwd and US don't go together very well. I was thinking a SVO stang, but i was wondering (beside the crazy chryster condoria or what ever) what is small, rwd, and good ol' american (thinking 80's... maybe?) that I could turn into a rally or cone cruncher... (and NOT a stang)
any ideas?
Xr4ti
yah. but so rare, they are getting a bit pricey, and most ppl know what they are now.. but they are a bit smaller than a stang, esentially a escort on steriods..so wieght would be down.
I wish we could get the awd focus from europe in the states.. that would own.

thats like 20 minutes from where I am at this very moment
parts car part scares me.
not that i have money. i would get a bird first, but I was thinking, what is small rwd and american.
it WOULD make a good cone cruncher.
I've got the ultimate answer to this one.
Chevette!
those rwd?!?!?! if so.. I am so gunna find one.
oh hell yeah they are. we're about to drag home an orange 4 door chevette from the junk yard and drop a 350/350 in it.
snap d00d, we had one of those till i was 13, a 1980 orange one, i never thought that car was nifty at all, it was just "old reliable". I always drempt of the mustang back then...
I SOOO am going to get a chevette and turn it into an autoX car. that would OWN! heheh. (yah it's a chevy) but sometimes one must make sacrifices.
just drop a ford motor into it
bet it would fly with a turbo 4 in it.
that car can't weight more than 2500 in hatchback trim
My parents bought two Chevettes, new from the dealer, one right after the other. The only new cars we ever had. :D
well look at that...

everythings on the internet if you look hard enough
oh the memories. I learned to drive a stick in that ed orange beast...
Vauxhaull Chevette? Double-yew tee eff, mayte?

XR4Ti's weren't made in the US anyway...
Look harder at what he wants.
who made the gremlin? howabout the pinto? are those rwd?
AMC Gremlin, you cant forget about the pacer either
Ford pinto = mercury bobcat
All RWD
why not a miata, and do some work to it? or a escort zx2 and make it rwd lol. if its a rally car your gonna do some work to it anyway
1980's available in the US? Mitsubishi Starion Turbo/ Chrysler Conquest Turbo
http://www.starquestclub.com/forums/index.php
http://www.starquestclub.com/forums/docs.php?doc=history
1988:
Starion ESI
Starion ESI-R
Conquest TSI
Drivetrain Changes: Boost increased to 10 PSI
188HP @ 5000rpm 234 lb-ft torque @ 2500rpm
10 PSI and comparable HP and torque to a 5 speed turbo coupe with the torque down low to boot. A little porky at around 3000 pounds but if those motors can take say 16 or 17 PSI I don't think you'll notice.
Hmm Paul why do they call it the two tonned sports car? Only weighs 3000?
oops, I thought he said "made in the US."
The thing about Starions and Conquests...well, when was the last time you actually saw one driving around? I NEVER see those things anywhere.
Why waste your time with RWD? Go for an AMX Eagle. Jeep drivetrain under a car basically.
There was an article in Hemmings a while back with a 340 powered Chrystler Conquest TSI. Going from a turbo 4 to a V8 one would assume it would be terribly unbalance, but it was actually pretty well balanced.

it is all pipe dreams anyway. I was just thinking aloud at work, and my brain couldn't come up with RWD compacts.. I complete forgot about the pinto.. those should still be around. the gremlins are harder to find, though I did think of one.
Pacer, AMX....
The list of AMC's go's on forever for small RWD cars.
Vega
If you can find a Vega Spider that would be ideal.
xr4ti is almost 3500 lbs?
http://www.crashtest.com/explanations/archive/crash.htm
that is heavier than a stang.. i guess the IRS weighs that thing down pretty good.
you deffenaty dont want a pacer for anything besides turning yourself into hamberger lol. but all the other amc's are good. spirits are rwd same look as an eagle, except the eagles are all wheel, or 4 wd depending on the year. they also come in manual and auto. my buddy collects amc's so if you have any questions...
The Pontiac Fiero ????
Nah, i prefer the pinto. Heard in some models the Turbo Coupe 4 cil swap is nearly bolt in.....
350 in a fiero would do it.
I vote for pinto. V-8 in a roller skate, or maybe not a v-8 but a spiffy four or SIX
even though I don't have money I have been thinking about this alot lately for some reason. guess I just really miss having a car (not my commute-mobile a real honest to goodness CAR).. I have thought about tc's, xr4ti's, another capri (preferably with a 200 6) getting a 4 eyed bird and putting the 200 6 in it.
I really think autoX is what I would like to do, I like drag racing and all, but cutting corners has always been fun for me. so i would like to go (preferably american just to anger the ricers) smaller, but with decent power and good handling. it is interesting when you start thinking about it, there are ALOT of different cars out there that would be fun to mod up. I love the eary birds, but they are pretty heavy girls, and they are not so much with the stopping and turning.
I just hope to get in the clear in the next few years so i can afford to get a toy, i figure I might as well research before I buy, and this give me a few years!! hehe.
pinto is interesting...
