Title: Is my a/c compressor any good?
Post by: amooset on January 26, 2006, 10:21:45 PM
I took it off the car because a/c wasn't working, probably electrical.  It never engaged.  I'd sell the compressor on ebay or elsewhere if I knew it was any good.  It doesn't leak, the system was pressurized when I removed it.  Is there any quick way to test to see if it will engage?

Apply 12V to the clutch coil. If it engages, you know the clutch works. That still doesn't guarantee that the compressor itself is any good.

I remember getting the following link from an old post by JeremyB, probably off the old board.  You can check the basics:

It still isn't a fool proof test, but its better than nothing.

I'm pretty sure the compressor itself works, it builds up a decent amount of pressure when I spin it by hand and plug up one end of the hose.  Now I know how to test the clutch, thanks!
