Title: not too sure?
Post by: notorious1538 on January 25, 2006, 11:23:47 PM
hey fellas, i'm not too sure what is happening but i will try to keep it simple. when i bought my 88 ls 3.8 it had 61 and odd somethin thousand miles, i got my tranny flushed at 63 (found out the idiot before me never had it done) and a few days after i got it done, i noticed a slight slight vibration and softening of the gas pedal when i would turn. and you would also hear a buzz. i have no idea what that is, could it be my transmission fluid pump? or my cables? i'm not too sure. thanks for your help.

and softening of the gas pedal
Assuming you have an AOD, this is a classic sign of the "Throttle valve" cable grommet disintegrating, and the cable end falling off the linkage at the throttle body. Open the hood, engine OFF, have someone push the gas pedal up and down while you locate the moving parts.

If you find something similar to this, you "should" be okay:

.
However, if you find this thing dangling:

.

then DO NOT drive it until you fix it. You could destroy the transmission!

if it's an automatic...like mine...3 speed...then check the modulator on the tranny....they're cheap to replace.....the buzz sound got me puzzled.....how's the motor mounts....maybe the struts are bad and make noise going around corners.....one more thing ...double check the fluid in the tranny....maybe too low....people make mistakes...hope this helps.

If the trans is an AOD in certain years they are knowen for buzzing in the valve body there is an updated valve body kit that fixes that prob.and an updated set of gaskets.
