Depends on you imagination the fox chassis will accept just about any engine/trans choice you can imagine.

A well built 302 can produce some awesome power, just make sure to use a roller block.

460's fit fine, a 5.0 with some work would be fine. 351 would fit fine, and you can use most of the parts from a 5.0

HA! For the price it'd cost to obtain and build a 429 SCJ, you'd probably be AHEAD to just buy a crate big-block. And it'd probably make more power too, and come with aluminum heads.

you could build a 427 stroker with twin turbos and canted valve heads. that should net you about 1000 hp.

then there's the 03 4.6L DOHC Cobra motor. it's relatively small in displacement but you can't tell by looking at it. 400 hp.

or you could attach that 3.8 to a boat and go grab a 5.0 HO out of a Mustang and be good to go.

I heard the 5.0 engines on the '87 T-birds only had 20 more hp than the 3.8. I remember reading that somewhere cuz I dont like my 3.8 but from 140 up to 160 hp isnt much of a gain. But I guess when you get the 5.0 you can supercharge it.

they (SO 302) actually only have 150, 155 in 88. you cant realy SC those. what you need is a 302 HO out of a mustang...225hp.

Well I would take the engine out and tear it down for a rebuild, but after you get it apart take all of the parts and put them in the bed of the truck and head off to the machine shop to have them clean them up and check them out.  Should be a good start, get it freshend up.

Ohh I forgot to mention, leave the tailgate down when you leave for the machine shop.  That should take car of your problem if you drive really fast.

I've often wondered what it would take to sqeeze a 351C in a fox-Cougar like mine? The reason I wonder, I have a Cleveland that's almost built that "was" going in something, but I'm getting rid of that vehicle. So I have a very powerful engine to do something with! lol

Someone on here has a fuel injected 351C, but I can't remember his username (I'm thinking it was 87Cleveland) and he hasnn't posted in a long time.  It was a really cool setup though.
