Title: '88 Turbo Questions
Post by: 5.8fastcat on January 15, 2006, 11:09:54 PM
I have a '88 Turbo coupe I'm fixing up.
1st question is the stripe in the trim (red) on all Turbo coupe?

2nd Is the black belt line moulding supposed to be shiney or egg shell black?

3rd THe car origbuttstuff had corner lamps but my fender now don't have the cut outs. Would you cut the fenders and put them back in the fenders?

Thanks just need others input.

#1- Yep, far as I know.

#2- Well...my front & rear bumpers are more of a "matte" finish, but the trim on the sides is shiny, so...I dunno.

#3-  I wouldn't bother, personally... does it have the trim piece that doesn't have the hole for the light, too?

Yes, I have the solid trim panels also.

Nice looking engine. What times does your car run?
How much boost can you put to a stock 88 coupe? I have a 255lph pump in tank?

If you have the solid panels I would just leave them out. Much easier, really.

Thanks. Times, I have no idea. No dragstrips around here. I've only had that engine in my car since June, had the timing way off for most of the summer, and then put it away for the winter.

Stock, for boost you're really limited to 18 psi. That's about the most that the stock IHI can do efficiently. If you swap in a T3, you can run 20-some PSI (especially if you have the 255 pump). I need to put a 255 in mine sometime this summer.

Mine has a manuel boost contoller and it will peg the factory gauge pretty easy. I just wondered if I was pushing it too hard?

Nahh...the factory boost gauge is usually at least 1 psi off anyway. Running the IHI above 18 psi just results in it heating the air up too much so there's no more of a gain in power, that's all.
