Title: '87 XR7 new on here
Post by: 5.8fastcat on January 15, 2006, 01:19:18 AM
I've been to CATJAM a couple times but missed last year. My car has been on CC but I've been out of the loop for awhile.
Hope you like. I have some plans for her this winter.

I remember her, that car is one of my favorites. I love those wheels on her!!! I wish I had the time and money to do a 5lug conversion, those Centerlines on the 87 would be gone yesterday!

I'd say its the base '87/'88 bumper cover. It seems to be missing the nuances of the TC cover..

I love your car.  Subtle body mods, nice wheels, fast 351 without a power adder, EFI.  What more could you want?  Lovely.
Title: '87 XR7 new on here
Post by: 5.8fastcat on January 15, 2006, 08:39:55 PM
Thanks for the praise, She is pretty fast, but it does have a power adder(150 shot of NX), I listed the mod below my sig.
THe frt bumper is a std T-bird not a turbo coupe bumper.
Other body mods;Tempo mirrors,T-bird frt bumper, painted body side moulding.

I don't know if it is faster than Nicks, but I'm ready to find out when he is.

How'd you get that Bird bumper to fit? You must have cut down the grille - looks good :D
Title: '87 XR7 new on here
Post by: 5.8fastcat on January 15, 2006, 10:08:16 PM
Yes, I had to cut off some off the top of the grill. Thats why it is painted now, to hide the grinder marks.
Are you the maker of the sesqntial tail light mod?  I love that. I paln on getting one of those units later this year.

I am indeed. You should get one - it'll shave 3/10'ths off your ET. Well it won't, really, but it'll make your Cougar's butt look better :D

Nice car and plenty 11 sec capable in my estimation, but that trap speed is kinda slow... You back out a little early on the top end???

Post by: 5.8fastcat on January 16, 2006, 10:36:40 AM
It was on the rEV LIMITER ABOUT THE LAST 200 FT OR SO.
Was the last test and tune day and just wanted to get in the 11's so I didn't run it again.
That was on drag radials and I drove it to the track approx 70 miles there and back. I was very pleased.

Post by: TurboCoupe50 on January 16, 2006, 10:49:11 AM
AHHH that explains it... The car should have a 11.60 @ 115/116 in it then...

I ran 12.23@112.2(1.72 60ft) a few years ago on a 90 shot... Tried a 150 but the 225/60/16 Nitto DRs i had at the time couldn't hold it... I did go 12.5@115 letting it loose in 2nd gear...
Title: '87 XR7 new on here
Post by: Thunder Chicken on January 16, 2006, 11:04:34 AM
Yeah, well, I hit 17.5 @ 88MPH... :flip:

People with faster cars than mine suck. Unfortunately that's just about everybody...

The frt fenders are]rolled as well as the rear fenders.
Yes they are SN95 spindles

Post by: shame302 on January 16, 2006, 01:23:07 PM
what about the front control arms? (im assuming you are using the stock K member?) stock tbird/cougar arms or fox mustang? what year spindles, 94-95 or 96 up. curious as too just how much my wheels are gonna stick out when everything is bolted up. thanks man....john
Title: '87 XR7 new on here
Post by: 5.8fastcat on January 16, 2006, 06:23:53 PM
My car has a mustang K member and I narrowed the front tubular lower control arms.
Before I changed the K member and other stuff the tire fit well.
I hope this answers your questions.

thank you

well, i can live with my wheel sticking out about as much as yours but with a fox stang k and "tbird length" control arms with 96 up spindles in my car they are likely going too stick out too far.

Woah, nice. 351 with a 150shot should get you deep into the 11s I would imagine. Mine ran 12.11 @ 113.8 with a 306 and 125shot, I tried the 150 shot, once it overpowered the tires and the second time the tune was way off due to MAF problems, that was the last time I ran the car. Never hit 11s, so congrats. Also, props on a clean car, looks sharp.

I just noticed from looking at your underhood pics: What have you got under there for a brake booster?

Hey Greg, how ya doing man?? I heard thru the "grape vine" in Owensboro that your car was back and better than ever! I also heard that it was at Raben getting some tires or something. :D
Title: '87 XR7 new on here
Post by: 5.8fastcat on February 05, 2006, 01:27:38 PM
The brake booster is one of the only thing that is still orginal. That is the one that came on the car it is a factory V8 car.

Derrick  I had my car @ Raben getting the frt end alined

Thats how I am, I have always felt that all fox thunderbirds looked like an owl with its eyes too far apart. Like it was semi retarded or something, I look at them waitin for them to start twitching. :D

The only one I would even waste my time on are the 94-95 SC's...

Yah I agree with both you guys... I'm a cougar person... that's why I own a cougar and not a bird. Both have their pluses and downfalls but what seals it for me is the rear windows and roof lines.

eh, I thi'nk the 87-88 body style cougar sucks. The tbird is alot better these years. I think the 83-86's look good though.

Hey 5.8fastcat. I hope you'll be bringing that car to CatJam this year. Car looks great. Was at CatJam two years ago, but can't remember your car there. My 86' was not driveable that year, so I went in my 04' mach1. Last year I went in my 88' XR7. Planning on bringing both if at all possible this year.

What kind of 1/4 mile time do you get without the 150 shot?
Title: '87 XR7 new on here
Post by: CougarSE on March 15, 2006, 08:45:17 PM
To each is own.  But those lines of an 87 88 cougar just do it for me.

Figured I'd pop into another thread.. It's like a family reunion or something. I think I have a tear in my eye. :)

So.. I forget where you're at with the rear-end. Did you do that 11 second run on stock axles? :)
