the 200$ car i just got lost the 2-3 shift, i can live without OD for city driving, but i need 3rd, anybody have any ideas? the fluid is full, im gonna go check out the tv cable, but other than that im out of ideas say for trans flush and new filter.
don't really know if thats gonna help unless the fluid is black like engine oil and burnt. but hey i say try it
sounds like a valve body problem. take the pan down and see if all the valves move in and out freely. i belive you dont have to take the body down to do this. or another way. Cheaper and less messy way would be to spray the good carb cleaner down the dipstick tube to free up the mess in there. worth a try. but i would drop the pan.
Something I have had a bit of luck with....... make sure all the bolts holding the valve body on are tight and while you have the pan off take a small hammer and tap all over the valve body, not hard but enough to dislodge anything. That fixed the cougars once.
Afew years ago when I was changing the filter on my old 87 sport, I remember there being something in the installation instructions about being sure to torque certain bolts cause it could cause certain shift problems. Maybe too little torque (loose hardware) could affect things also? I'll try to see if I still have the instructions filed somewhere.
well i dropped the pan and hosed it down with cleaner and the valves still didnt move, so i took the filter and VB off and hosed it some more. everything is still stuck. any more suggestions?
maybe soaking it in solvent overnight may loosin things up.
well i took the VB off compleatly and dissambled it, cleaned it, and put it back together. moves nicly now, those valves were realy stuck lol. now i just gotta put it back and hope it dosnt explode lol.
good luck my friend. hope you marked where all those balls go and clips to hold springs and what order they go in. i have also made that mistake installing a transo go kit. (doooooh ((homer yell))
if you can live with out over drive 3 speed it. im going to in the ol stang. aod's just seem to hate old age.
by the way. what are the valves made of are they a silvery color or a brons looking color.
