Title: Don't You Just Hate...
Post by: Ether947 on January 14, 2006, 12:35:59 PM
...waiting and staring at the pile-o-parts (pic below) eagerly awaiting to go on your car? This isn't even half of what I will be buying in the next few weeks. I've got to get this Bird road ready by the end of Feb to make the +600 mile trip to AL and pick up my son. I had planned on putting some of this stuff on today, but the weather isn't cooperating. :(

I know how you feel. Just think of the pile of parts I've got on this:

That will have to go on this:

I'm also going to be ordering a bunch of stuff from CHE performance, and I've got to locate a 5.0 T5 and associated parts, plus the HO conversion parts. I've got a lot of work ahead of me...

It's bad when it's too cold outside to work in the garage... that cement floor is mighty cold!

It's bad when you don't even have a garage to work on your car.

same here. and cougarcrusen well a cold cement floor is better than a snow covered driveway with blowing winds that mane it extremely cold. id kill to have a gurage to fix my car in.

Don't have a pile of parts waiting to go into anything, just a parts car waiting to be stripped. Don't have a garage or even a slab of concrete  outside to work on.. just a gravel/dirt driveway and a carpet sample I lay on. (which also doubles as a floor mat for my truck) I do have the weather for working on stuff, though. 63 degrees and windy.

On the plus side, I think I've found a new owner for my '88 T-bird, and it may even see new life as a drag car. Been interesting the last few days here.

Yeah it snowed. It didn't stick to the roads but it is cold as hades. It's been pretty warm all week until today. Of course. I live in an apartment but a friend of mine said I could use his driveway. He has a garage but the roofers have a trash bin blocking it. =/ I didn't feel too enthused about working on a cold wet driveway with the wind blowing this morning.

On a positive note, me and my g/f found a house for rent last night and it has a garage. Woot! It's pretty much a done deal, we get the keys on the 11th of Feb so I can't wait to move in! :D

A cold garage doesn't bother me as much as the wind does. When it's below freezing even a slight breeze can feel like a pimp slap. It kills my motivation pretty quick.

Man, that's exactly what I wanna do. I gotta get my own place this summer (I'm graduating from college, plus my mom is selling our house) so I'm hoping to find a place with a garage, or at least a carport, and at the very least some cement to park my car on so I can work on it...

But yeah I know how you feel. My TC is wrapped up for the winter, and in my room I have a new cam, stb, k-member brace, subframes, and torque box reinforcements waiting to go on...but before all that I gotta pull the transmission, replace the bushing in the output shaft, and pretty much replace the whole clutch assembly (new flywheel, new bearing retainer, new clutch fork, and probably a new clutch too since I don't know what's wrong with the one that's in there). And on top of that I still need to get an SVO master cylinder for the car, and the 3-core radiator I've been needing basically since I got th car...

I'm getting antsy because I'd much rather be working on it than not!

I am rounding up some parts as well. Heres a few: LA3, big VAM, brown tops, 87/8 intercooler, 8.8" w/ 3.55's (the disks go with it as well, joy!), CHE's, 87/8 hood hinges (I hate that goofy prop rod!!), 3" exhaust (dp-tip), Eibach lowering springs, and a few other things that I have added jsut to clean the bay up or make it easier to use... looks like I have my hands full :D

Frank M.

Did I mention I am in the process of purchasing a silver 87/8 as a daily driver (that means the 83 is gunna be the queen ;) ). It has a few things thats going to need adjusted/fixed. Needs new rack, and the rear main is bad so it needs fixed. It has quit a few options on it and im getting a pretty good deal on it :D pics as soon as she comes home (hopefully the middle of next week??)

Try not having money to buy the parts you need so you're stuck to deal with the car the way it is. That's the price you pay for buying a new car.
My driveway is gravel. I have no cement or garage and my home has nothing around it to block the wind. I've had to work on the car with the driveway partially snow covered and muddy with the wind blowing snow in my face, dressed in layers looking like the Michelin man, and wearing rubber surgical gloves because winter gloves can't grasp anything. Not very bloody fun.
But it does make things quite interesting and memorable.

I do all my "major" jobs in my grandma's garage...unfortunately I usually can't leave the car in there for more than a day so it kinda limits me!

I've done plenty of work in our gravel driveway though, trust me...

Most of that stuff pictured is generally under $20 a piece. I've been saving my money and being frugal to buy stuff with whatever money I can find. I got a two-month break on daycare so that's were most of my money is coming from recently.

I wonder if we are the only michigan residents on this forum...Doesn't this weather stink? I guess having lakes on three sides of you state makes for temperamental conditions.

And I thought I was the only one who has car parts in their bedroom. I have a full dash, new headlights, an H.O. intake manifold, exhaust tips, SD S.O. and H.O. computers along with a ton of other little things in there. I have a lot more stuff piled away in the basp00get.

Try having the ocean on four sides of you. We can have all four seasons in a single day  - f'rinstance today it started out as 60 and rainy, then the sun came out, the wind came up, the temperature dropped, and now we're expecting low teens and light snow with 50MPH wind tonight, then cold/windy tomorrow, and then back into the 50's with sunshine on Tuesday

thats gotta mess with your head. people around here are constantly crabby cause of the weather changes. not that boston area people are known for their general cheeryness anyway. i can only imagine how people are out your way.

screw that working on the ground stuff. over the past 4 years i have built my garage-mahal. it started as a 28x28 2 car, then about 2 years ago started on the 3rd bay. took almost a year of weekends and buying material when i could afford it. the 3rd bay is now "t-bird bay" as it is 15x40 and has my drag project and daily driver in it. oh did i mention the 3rd bay is insulated, heated and a/c'd? i still have a bunch of parts for the drag car in our 3rd bedroom though. something about them being in a 24 hour climate controlled environment. LOL!

Yeah right! I bet there's more people here with parts in their bedrooms then you think. That's where I keep 95% of my stuff...mostly because I don't have anywhere else to keep it (our basp00get is packed full of junk, plus we have a dog that likes to pee on anything sitting on the floor). It's also easier to keep inventory of what I have :) Unfortunately I'm running out of space in my room too...good thing spring will be here soon!

I think everybody on here has done that at one time or another.

When I was in the Air Force and living in the barracks on base the Dorm Manager used to give me  for doing that all the time.  Luckily I havea large boiler room in the basp00get now.  I think my wife would bury me in some far off place if I piled car parts in the bedroom.

yeah...im so used too seeing them in there. its gonna be weird once they are actually on the car. its gonna be both a happy, and a sad day cause the parts will be on the car but...ghasp...they will be outside :(

you even got the wheels and tires inside....i couldnt pull that one off...

i live in an apartment too... after dropping the tank twice in the lot, i have decided to never do it again.

the only reason she let me put the wheels in the apartment is because we are moving in 3 weeks and she (we) hate this place. lol. the last time i had wheels i had to keep them in my car.
